Surprise! 🥰

Thank God, Pak Slamet won first place in the Kalpataru Award in the Environmental Pioneer Category in Central Java.
Central Java is one of Indonesia’s thirty-eight provinces, located in the middle of Java Island, where our coffee grows 🌏

And Kalpataru, is a prestigious environmental award given annually by the Indonesian government to individuals and communities who have made a real impact on environmental restoration. In this case, no one did similar acts before that's why it is called pioneer 🌱🙏🏼

So, in the past few months, Pak Slamet and I have been occupied with the field verification processes for the award. We didn’t apply for this, but our local forestry department recognized Pak Slamet’s work in protecting the forest and nominated him.

Since 2007, Pak Slamet has been continuously planting endemic trees to protect the water springs in the forest while cultivating coffee—yes, the same coffee you can find in our place in Bandungan, and in Switzerland as it is imported directly by our best partner .cafe 🇮🇩🇨🇭

Just like the forest ecosystem where everything is so connected, this wonderful journey would not have happened without you. Yes, you. Thank you very much for giving us the energy to keep the connection from alive ❤

Fumarol* di kawasan percandian Gedong Songo, Gunung Ungaran.

Keberadaan fumarol merupakan salah satu penanda adanya jejak aktivitas vulkanis di gunung api yang bertipe stratovolkano** ini. Gunung Ungaran sendiri termasuk gunung api tipe B yang artinya gunung api ini memiliki catatan sejarah letusan sebelum tahun 1600 M. Geser slidenya dan mari kita resapi suara Bumi yang menderu-deru 🌬

Kopi luwak ini belum tersentuh tangan manusia, bijinya tersebar karena alam membilasnya dengan air hujan sebelum kami mencapai lokasinya. Bisa dilihat lapisan parchment atau kulit ari masih utuh melapisi biji kopinya.

Selain terkenal sebagai salah satu kopi termahal di dunia, kopi luwak juga dikenal dengan kisah pahit di balik proses produksinya. Tentang penangkaran, eksploitasi hewan, dan praktik pencampuran. Karena citra buruk ini, beberapa tamu sanggar dari benua biru pernah menyatakan keberatannya mencicipi kopi luwak. Mereka baru berubah pikiran setelah mengetahui kisah luwak-luwak liar di Gunung Ungaran yang membantu penyebaran bibit kopi, bertemu langsung dengan pemrosesnya dan memastikan tidak ada luwak yang dikandangkan.

Mungkin terdengar aneh, tapi bagi kami kopi luwak liar adalah komoditas sakral yang membawa doa dan secercah harapan. Semoga sebentar lagi wilayah Gedong Songo dan sekitarnya dapat menjadi wilayah konservasi sekaligus rumah yang aman bagi spesies-spesies endemik yang hidup di dalamnya 🙏🏻

The untouched wild Luwak coffee, the rain cleans it before we reach the spot and collect them. Can you see the parchment is still intact?

It may sound weird, but for us, wild Luwak coffee is a sacred commodity. We heard enough upsetting stories behind one of the most expensive coffee in the world. But in our region, it brings the opposite effect. Since Pak Slamet started his coffee journey nine years ago, it has successfully reduced the number of wild Luwak poaching. Each time we serve it, it gives us a precious opportunity to spread the message of animal protection and how it correlates with the ecosystem 🌱

Somehow, the wild Luwak coffee gives us a spark of hope that soon, the Gedong Songo forestry can be a safe home for all the endemic species and all living things in the region ❤🙏🏻

When you brew our coffee, please remember it's not only about us and the coffee. It's about the whole ecosystem surroundings. Every component in the forest has a role to play: the soil, the water, the air, the sulphur crater that creates the microclimate and also the trees and bushes, the microbes, fungus, insects, birds, mammals (including the wild Luwak) and all other creatures.

And yes, everything is interconnected! Now it's the time for us to keep this marvellous system alive 🙏🏻

Matur nuwun dumateng Gusti Ingkang Akaryo Jagad, masa panen 2021 telah usai!

Syukuran sederhana ini adalah tradisi tahunan penutup masa panen sekaligus sebagai doa kami untuk mengawali kembali lingkaran proses tanam-rawat-panen-paska panen.

Tumpeng merupakan representasi dari hubungan antara manusia, alam dan penciptanya; sementara telur melambangkan asal muasal kehidupan. Suatu sabda dengan bahasa alam yang sederhana namun sarat makna.

Terima kasih Tuhan, alam dan terima kasih semuanya. Semoga kita semua bisa bersama-sama menjaga keindahan alam agar tetap terjaga dan lestari hingga anak cucu nanti. Salam Memayu, rahayu 🙏🏻

The 2021 harvest season is over!

In our annual tradition, we did a simple Javanese gratitude ceremony to mark the end of the harvest season and start the plant-prune-harvest-post harvest cycle again. It's a part of our ancestor's tradition that we found has a beautiful value we'd love to cherish.

In this picture, a tumpeng (cone-shaped rice) represents the relationship between humans, nature and the Creator, while the eggs symbolise the beginning of life.

Big thanks to anyone who has been a part of our journey. May life bless you with abundant joy and happiness! 🙏🏻
