More than just a T-shirt. A tribute to a club, a community, and a remarkable chapter in local sporting history.
Founded in 1993, Sheephaven Bay RFC was born from the vision of a group of friends determined to bring rugby to a corner of Donegal where the game had never truly taken root. What followed was a journey that would leave a lasting mark both on and off the pitch.
The club’s very first fixture was no ordinary occasion. Taking to the field at Glenree, Sheephaven Bay faced a star-studded Ireland XV featuring the likes of Willie Anderson, Trevor Ringland and David Irwin – a fitting introduction for a club with big ambitions.
Over the next decade, Sheephaven Bay RFC travelled the length and breadth of Ulster and beyond, taking on clubs across Ireland, including trips to Leinster and Terenure. Wherever rugby was played, friendships were forged. And when teams came to Donegal, they knew exactly where the post-match hospitality awaited them – the Harbour Bar, Downings, the true home of countless stories, celebrations and lifelong memories.
The club stood for more than just rugby. In 2003, when professional rugby in the west faced uncertainty, Sheephaven Bay proudly backed the campaign to keep Connacht alive, reflecting the spirit and passion for the game that defined the club.
After relocating to their grounds in Downings, beside the driving range, the club continued to build its legacy until its eventual dissolution in 2005. While the team may no longer take the field, the memories, friendships and stories live on.
Our new Sheephaven Bay RFC Retro Tops pay homage to those unforgettable years – the players, the supporters, the away trips, the home matches, and the legendary evenings spent in the Harbour Bar after the final whistle.
