A big thank you to all our amazing volunteers for coming to our Volunteer Appreciation evening.
We wanted to acknowledge all your hard work and support. We cant do it without ye.

A special thank you to Gary at McNamees for the wonderful hospitality and the delicious pizza - and also to Ryan from Hopes Bakery for the fabulous cupcakes and muffins.

🔷24-Hour Radio-Thon returns in Aid of Loughrea’s LCRfm🔶

Local radio presenter and volunteer Rob Doyle will return to the hot seat challenge for a 24-hour DJ radiothon on Saturday, June 20th, in a bid to raise vital funds for LCRfm. The fundraiser will kick off at 10am on Saturday morning and continue non-stop through to 10am on Sunday, 21st June!

The event will feature Rob live on air for the full 24 hours participating in regular daytime shows alongside fellow presenters, before continuing solo through the night.

The station has planned a range of activities across the day and night, including fun challenges, spot prizes, giveaways, and special guest performances from local musicians.

Rob is the stations Mr. Versatility as he has hosted nearly every show at this point - just not over a 24 hour stretch !!!

“This station means so much to me,” Rob said. “It’s completely volunteer-run, and we broadcast every weekend. We’re passionate about keeping local voices and music on the airwaves. This fundraiser is my way of giving something back and helping to keep us going strong.”

Loughrea Community Radio is a non-profit, community-focused station broadcasting every Thursday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday from its studio in Loughrea. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the station provides a platform for local presenters and musicians, giving a voice to the people of the town and surrounding areas.

Donations in support of the 24-hour challenge can be made through LCRfm’s idonate link as soon as the 24 hour goes live on Saturday, 20th June at 10am and updates will be posted across the station’s social media channels.

📣COMPETITION TIME📣

Loughrea Tidy Towns volunteers, aided enthusiastically by our dedicated residents, are doing a magnificent job of cleaning, weeding, planting and litter picking around the town. We want to encourage the town to keep the momentum going!

We are introducing a new initiative this year in the form of an ESTATES & STREETS COMPETITION . There will be a few categories based on numbers of houses in your estate or street, so there will be a place for everyone. So why not get together with a few residents and give it a go!

Contact us if you need help or advice. We will have prizes! Thanks to Galway County Council who have agreed to be sponsors.

To ensure independence, judges will not be local. They will be looking out for the following:

✨Neat and tidy landscaping with no evidence of spraying of commercial weedkiller (i.e. no brown edges)
✨Flower planting – baskets, pots, window boxes and flowerbeds
✨Care for biodiversity eg areas for wildflowers, hedgerows, native trees.

Prizes also for:
✨Best Window Box
✨Best Hanging Display
✨Best Young Person’s Garden and
✨Best Accessible Gardens
