When ordering from Shimla Biryani (Kolkata), my usuals in most cases are Mutton Biryani and Laccha paratha with Chicken Afghani Butter masala. However, a few weeks back, I craved pulao like crazy and no, not the usual bengali style polao but something different. While I got mutton biryani for my family members, I got myself Navaratan Pulao and Chicken Lababdar. Oh, and there was also this beautiful fish orly from Apanjan. Mutton biryani, particularly from the VIP Nagar outlet of Shimla Biryani is always amazing as mentioned in my previous reviews.
So, Let’s talk about the rest of the food now!
• Navaratan Pulao Rs.241, Taste 6.5/10: Navaratan here means 9 key ingredients that includes vegetables and dry fruits. Navaratan pulao is basically a very fragrant pulao made with basmati rice, vegetables of choice, paneer, dry fruits/nuts and pineapple. It’s on the sweeter side! Now, there’s a catch. I love sweetish polao (eg: Basanti Polao) but using canned pineapple was a really bad idea, in this particular dish. The sugar syrup soaked pineapple made the entire pulao way sweeter than I‘d prefer. Keeping aside the pineapple, the polao was pretty nice.
• Chicken Tikka Lababdar (6pcs) Rs.393, Taste 9/10: A mix between reshmi butter masala and chicken tikka butter masala. It’s so good! The chicken tikkas are soft, smokey and flavourful and the gravy is to die for. This would taste so good with butter naan.
• Fish Orly (Bhetki) from Apanjan - Rs.180, Taste 8/10: Apanjan is my go-to eater for fish fry or batter fry. According to me, it’s the best! This batter fry was really nice with fresh flaky fish but I still prefer their amazing fish fry over this fish orly.❤️
