Walking down by the main thoroughfare on Southern Avenue, The Olde House Eatery banner catches one's eye, leading down a quaint narrow alley. As we turn the doorknob, we are transported to a picturesque ambience of hand-painted walls adorned with centuries old Belgian mirrors and Victorian era furniture. The spirited Dattas of The Olde House Eatery have joined hands with none other than Vikram Malhotra from the house of the erstwhile Skyroom and Blue Fox to recreate the sophisticated era of fine food from their kitchen. The celebrated prawn cocktail, with that unforgettable flavor that lives on in legends and wistful memories of Calcuttans of the time, is back on The Olde House menu. Old timers may well remember how the prawn cocktails of Skyroom used to be flown to Delhi for the then Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi. The Datta-Malhotra duo has made sure that the signature dishes of the famous Skyroom cuisine have retained their place in The Olde House Eatery menu : the chicken á la kiev; juicy steaks done to perfection, the chicken tetrazzini; lobster thermidor; chicken Sicilian; with new additions like Greek fish and many more. Oh did we mention they're bringing back their classic desserts like the baked Alaska too? Come with us, this trip down memory lane looks particularly promising.
