Dear friends of Dar,

Thank you for all the support you have shown in the aftermath of the massive explosion in Beirut. The mobilization of fundraising and action has been incredible and there are several efforts we support.

This one here was created by my cousins, my husband and I. We believe that what people really need the most is access to is cash in order to revitalize their small businesses and rebuild their homes. We are crowdfunding for this purpose and plan on managing the distributions ourselves.

Beloved friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we are sharing the news that Dar is closing its doors. This has been an extraordinarily difficult decision made after much deliberation, calculation and soul searching. We really did our best, but during these tough times, in the era of economic uncertainties and social distancing, we had to consider how to reconcile that with a space created to bring people together.

The outpouring of love, support and tears our dear staff and customers have shared with us has really been beyond what we could have ever imagined. We are genuinely overwhelmed, touched, humbled and completely honored by it. Dar could not have been what it became had it not been for your faith and role in it. Dar belongs to us all. It’s about more than just good food. Dar embodies love, friendship, creativity and inclusivity. It is a place where truly everyone is welcome.

To our incredible staff, both you who are with us now and you have been with us in the past, there is so much to say. Thank you for making Dar your own and capturing and exuding its very spirit. Thank you for your hard work, your devotion, your smiles and your energy. You are the very core of Dar’s community. You are our family. Thank you for being who you are. We love and appreciate you more than we can express.

Dear customers, thank you for making us a part of your lives. You are our community. Thank you for making Dar your cornerstone for lunches, dinners, coffees, brunches, talks, dates, work meetings, book signings, marriage proposals, anniversaries, going away parties, birthdays, family outings, storytelling nights . . . the list goes on. It has really been such an honor.

While endings are difficult, they come with new beginnings and silver linings. While we might not be in this same place at this time, our journey is not over. Till we meet again.

Attention: It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday and since it will be difficult to buy your mom a card, .haddad.illustrations will teach you how to make one! Don’t forget to tune in to our Instagram page at 6 to learn to illustrate flowers and design a lovely card for your mother/mother figure 🙏🏼❤️ And if you’re unable to join at 6 PM today, Sasha will be back tomorrow at 11 AM 🎨💕

We are excited to announce that we will be bringing Dar to your Dar/home with daily videos and live Instagram sessions by beautiful and gifted people from our community. They will share their talents, recipes, workouts, meditation, and more to keep you entertained.

So what’s on the menu this week? Our inaugural live session tomorrow is at 6 PM (and again on Friday at 11 AM) with the magical .haddad.illustrations who will teach you how to illustrate a Mother’s Day card 🖍🎨💕! And for the little ones, virtual storytelling in Arabic with our favorite children’s book author on Saturday at 11 AM 📖🧸. On Sunday, we have a special musical performance at 6 PM 🎶🎶 (make sure you tell your moms to tune in!)

We will announce next week’s menu/lineup on Sunday! Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have something you’d like to share with our online community ❤️

Only good news (part II): when this is over (and it will be), we will be back right here to serve you colors and fun and food and books and music and cultural events and, YES, corona (the drink!) in your home away from home. But for now we all need to stay home until further notice. Nothing is worth your safety and that of our staff. We promise to keep you entertained on our Instagram page and have you around our virtual table. It is as big as Dar’s heart and has enough seats for each and every one of you. We will get through this by being together in our ‘apartness’ and more connected than ever in our social distance. Only good news and good news only our dear DARlings 🙏🏼 Let’s stay connected 💌

Only good news: our own delivery service and Toters remain uninterrupted and you can still call us on 01373348 to get your favorite food from Dar between 12 and 10 PM daily. The other good news is preventative steps are being taken by the syndicate of restaurants and we are happily closing down our space until March 18. Please avoid crowds and public spaces so that we can limit the spread of . This is the time to stand together (but only figuratively speaking.) Stay home, stay safe, and we will deliver your food (and books) to you wherever you are in Beirut.
