Tucked back from the streets of Mar Mikhael is SUD: a restaurant, bar, terrace and rooftop gathered together around a renovated traditional Mediterranean courtyard. Situated a few steps from the sidewalk, SUD reaches back to the heart of Beirut life – seven days a week, from early till late, come rain or shine. Downstairs to the right, the restaurant offers a range of classic and carefully conside

red original mediterranean dishes served up from the plancha grill in the open kitchen just beyond. To the left, the downstairs bar offers a select list of orginal cocktails alongside all the staple classics to sooth even the most weary of travellers. A selection of tapas from the restaurant’s menu is available at the bar to tie one over, no matter the hour. To the front, the restaurant’s French windows open out onto a plant-lined flagstone terrace accompanied by the faint aroma of a wood fire pizza oven in the air, where diners relax under the late afternoon sun or stars with a drink from the bar or an item from the full Mediterranean menu. As the evening progresses, the rooftop offers an open-air reprieve from Beirut’s crowded streets. The DJ, formiddable bar and low-slung couches create a space to recline post-dinner or prep for the night ahead.
