Every month, I’ll be sharing a cultural reference that has inspires me and that has become part of Levant.
This month, I chose Wahdon by Fairouz, composed and arranged by Ziad Rahbani, as a tribute marking one year since his passing. It was the first album I listened to after hearing the news of Ziad’s passing.
One of the album’s most beloved songs, Al B***a, perfectly captures the feeling of summer in the Lebanese mountains. Its simple, memorable lyrics have been sung by generations, forever linking the name “Alya” to the song.
“Wahdon” has also gained renewed resonance in recent months, as many of the stories and emotions it carries feel surprisingly close to what we’re living today.
