| 💨🏜️ | Sahara Dust Now Covers ; Expected to Have Hazy Skies
The Saharan dust air mass has reached western Mexico and has begun affecting Jalisco. As a result, Puerto Vallarta is expected to experience hazy skies, reduced visibility, and sunsets with vivid orange and red hues.
According to the updated weather monitoring map released on the morning of Monday, June 29, the cloud of particles originating from the African desert now covers part of Mexico's Pacific coast and is moving over the states of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Oaxaca. Forecasts indicate that its effects will gradually diminish starting on Wednesday.
Saharan dust is a natural phenomenon that occurs when strong winds lift millions of tons of sand and mineral particles from the African desert. These particles cross the Atlantic Ocean and reach the Americas, carried by atmospheric currents.
Experts clarify that this is not pollution and that, at the forecast concentrations, it does not pose a risk to most of the population. In fact, these particles provide minerals that benefit soils and certain ecosystems.
However, people with asthma, allergies, rhinitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other respiratory conditions may experience irritation or discomfort. They are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exposure, stay well hydrated, and wear a face mask if they are sensitive to airborne particles.
In Puerto Vallarta, in addition to slightly hazy daytime conditions, one of the most striking effects will be more colorful sunsets, a natural spectacle that can be enjoyed while this Saharan dust plume remains over the region.

THE SPIDER MONKEYS ESCAPED AND COULD BE DANGEROUS

- There is video footage showing how they lived at the Mismaloya Zoo.
