If your read articles on Malaysiakini and others reporting about our GDP press conference today, there are many negative comments about Governor.
Personal ad hominem attacks on the BNM Governor or anyone are cheap and easy and low class. For the record, Agong is the one who appointed TSMI, not Najib. Who recommended TSMI? BNM’s Board Governance Committee; not Najib or the PM/M*F. Read the law. Akta BNM 2009. If you refuse to believe, then pray to God to open your eyes, heart, and mind.
If you believe TSMI is orang Najib, please ask other orang Najib what they think of him. Even Najib calls him “Mr. No” because he is steadfast on his principles, has integrity, and yet humble. He doesn’t use his Tan Sri. Just look at the BNM website senior officers list.
If you still believe TSMI is too close to Najib, it simply is at a professional level. While BNM is independent within the government, it needs to work with other agencies including M*F. You cannot get things done if you don’t build relationships. But it is all professional, not personal.
If you have evidence that TSMI is complicit in wrongdoing with the previous administration, make a police report and submit evidence. If you just FEEL he did wrong, then you are misguided and biased in your judgment, and you should keep that feeling to yourself.
About BNM, it is NOT a government agency. It does not receive an annual budget from the Government. Go check Bajet every year. BNM is a statutory body, meaning it is set up by Act of Parliament. While Government gave capital in 1959 for the setup, since then, it has generated its own money from its activities. BNM pays it back in dividends. Some billions of ringgit already. Look at BNM Accounts in the Annual Report. Read. Thus, to say what BNM does with its money is “using Rakyat’s money” is wrong. It has all the rights to do whatever it wants with its own money.
On INCEIF, it is not an “obscure training centre”. It is a global university of Islamic finance. Very renowned in the world. If you don’t know what it is, perhaps you should Google. No wonder Tun M said Malaysians are an uneducated lot.
On 1MDB, let it be known that BNM is the ONLY body that has taken action on it so far. But BNM has no prosecutorial powers; that lies with the AGC. BNM can only impose fines. If you think that is “inaction” then you are wrong again. To think that BNM “knows everything” is also misguided. We rely on banks to report to us. Yes we do audits, but we cannot be everywhere all the time. And wrongdoers try very hard and very creative at hiding things.
In short, most of the abusive comments here can be resolved with education of what BNM does, the relevant laws, reading more widely, and having an open unbiased mind to see how things can appear in a different light.
