Dulu2, di waktu2 begini, lebih kurang 2 minggu sebelum tamat puasa, Arwah Abah (nak taip Arwah pun terketar2) akan bertanya soalan lazim…
“Akak (my Abah and my siblings call me this, being the first born), awak dah buat kuih tart Abah? Inti nenas tu awak kurangkan manisnya,
“Ye Abah,” jawabku.
“Biskut bepang kacang nipis tu jangan lupa yek, (since florentine has made its debut, he had claimed them his favourite…hiihihi)
“Ok Abah,” akurku.
“Biskut Arab untuk Mak buat lebih, ramai yang s**a,
“Kek untuk Abah dengan Mak boleh buat lambat sikit, malam raya boleh makan kek panas,”(both my parents have the knack for hot, newly baked cakes. They will be waiting gingerly at the table, so it’s normally direct from the oven to the table. Usually by this time all my siblings, nephews, nieces and cucu would have already arrived and so 1 cake would have been finished on malam raya….
“Satu lagi, guna butter, Dr tu kata majerin bahaya,” “Dr Tu” referring to a dietician.
Abah oh Abah…although yearly you repeat the same instructions to me, but of course sometimes with some changes here and there.
