HIS OTHER WOMAN
CHAPTER ONE
Adam and Zoya had been married for years. They went through storms and sunshine before acquiring their massive wealth.
All was going well with the couple until Adam employ a new staff, he was surprised that she isn't married at thirty-six. He began investigating her and develop feelings for her in the process. He however didn't know how to break the news to his wife.
He decided to visit his best friend Habeeb and hear his opinion.
"Why did you call me? I'm sure you didn't just invite me here to come and enjoy the sun with you." Habeeb said with a crooked smile.
"You're absolutely right. There is this new employee of mine, she is pretty and smart.
I couldn't help but get curious and investigate when I found out that she isn't married at thirty-six."
"So?" Habeeb muttered creasing his brow.
"I think I like her and would love to take her in as my second wife. But the issue now is my wife, I don't know how to inform her without hurting her feelings. You know we've been through a lot together." Adam mumbled in a low voice.
"So you called me here to help you inform her?" he inquired and burst into laughter, "you must be kidding."
"Well, not really that. I just need some advice."
"Alright then. I can't stop you from going after your heart but just be careful and sincere with them both. I'm not surprised you're marrying two, some people get all the luck. congratulations in advance. I wish you the best of luck."
"Thanks, man," Adam said returning his smile.
They had a warm handshake and depart.
Adam got home later in the day he freshen up and joined his wife to watch the news, but his mind was not present. He kept thinking of breaking the news to her.
He yearns to go after his heart and he doesn't want to displease his wife at the same time.
Zoya cut her husband staring blankly at the TV.
"Why do you look so gloomy? Is everything alright at work"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"Are you sure? You don't look fine to me," she said with a raised brow.
"Should I just inform her and put my mind to rest once and for all?" Adam said to himself. He turns to face his wife and called her name softly.
"Yes," Zoya turned to her husband giving him her full attention.
"I have got something to tell you."
"Okay, I'm all ears."
He glanced at her keenly and thought of taking her out.
"I won't be comfortable breaking the news to her in here," he mumbled to himself. "let's go out for dinner," he said breaking the silence.
"You will miss your favorite show."
"It doesn't matter."
"let me change into a better outfit."
"Sure, I will wait in the car."
Adam get up, picked up his car keys, and headed to the car. He got in the car and turn on the stereo player.
"I pray things go well, at least it looks like we're going on a date," he mumbled, beaming happily.
Zoyah joined him in the car, the nasheed he played echoed softly.
"Where are we heading to?"
"Your favorite spot."
"Great."
They got to the eatery within thirty minutes. He parked his car in the garage and they went in.
He secure a place at the back, he order their meals and the waiter served them in minutes.
They chat as they devoured the meal.
They finish the desert and where having a nice chit-chat when Zoya breaks the bubble.
"So.. What do you want to talk about?"
"Emr...I'm sorry if this is going to hurt you, I won't hurt you deliberately I promised."
Zoya raises an eyebrow and stares at him keenly.
"Zoya, I am taking a second wife."
"What! You're just kidding me, right?" She said in complete shock.
"I am serious."
"How could you, how could you do this to me? Is this how you want to repay me for my loyalty? I'm so disappointed in you." She said in annoyance.
She picked up her purse and hurry out.
"Zoya, wait," Adam called and made to follow her when her word stopped him.
"Don't even dare to, don't dare come after me. I need a moment for myself. I need a moment to think it through." she shrieked.
She got out in time to get a taxi. She described her destination and the cab driver drove her there under an hour.
__________
A knock sounded at Auntie Moni's door. Antie Moni as she was popularly called was a middle age woman known for her benevolence and philanthropy.
She had seen a lot in life, she is a woman of the community. She made herself available to everyone and gives free marital advice.
She is the one women Zoya use to run to whenever she is troubled or needed advice.
Zoya knocks lightly on the door again.
"Yes, come in please, the door is open."
"Asalam alaykum, ma."
"Walaykum salam, Zoya dear, what a pleasant surprise." She got up from her seat and wrapped her niece in an embrace.
"Please have a seat."
Zoya sat down and look around her, her place hasn't changed a bit. It's exactly like the last time she visited.
"It's been ages since your visit. That was during Arun's graduation before moving to the boarding and it's over three years now. You prefer phoning to visiting."
Zoya felt remorseful and quickly bows her head in guilt.
"It's okay dear, I can never get angry at you. That is how rich men's wife does, they're always busy." She let out in amusement and Zoyah smiled despite her predicament.
"But what I'm not understanding is why you came here this late all alone. Is everything alright?"
"Auntie Moni, Adam is taking a second wife." She burst out bitterly.
"Oh my! Sorry to hear that dear."
"I don't know what I ever do wrong. I tried my best to be the best wife to him. I fulfill all my roles as a faithful and dutiful wife. Look at how he wants to repay me. Where have I ever gone wrong? I'm not pretty anymore. Get me a mirror let me see if I have begun growing wrinkles." She turned to her aunt covering her face with her hands.
Auntie Moni smiled at her outbursts and removed her hands from her face. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with you, dear.
You see men are polygamous in nature, it's not your fault at all. Even if you go head-over-heel and discharge all your wifey duties, a man that is bound to take more wives will still do it."
Zoya twists her mouth in dismal and bows her head.
"It's in men's nature to desire more women. But hey, what really matters is doing it right.
Allah stated in suratu Nisa Quran 4, Verse 3:
And if you fear that you cannot act equitably towards orphans, then marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right course." Auntie Moni quoted.
Zoya heaves a deep sigh.
"Islam legalizes polygamy. It allows men to marry up to four wives, so there is no excuse for them to commit Zina, no concubines or side chicks in Islam."
Her words struck her, if marrying another woman would not make him commit Zina then she won't be against it. After all, he would still be husband to her and the other woman. "That is much better than keeping a concubine," she whispered to herself.
"I wish he could reason with me then and marry her instead of his commitment to illegal affairs. By Allah, I was never against his marrying the other woman." Auntie Moni suddenly burst in dismay.
"Oh, I'm sorry I awake a bad memory."
"It's fine."
Zoya looks ahead hard and chews her nail. A habit she does whenever she is worried or upset.
"Zoya dear, it's okay to feel sad that your husband is marrying another woman. It's very okay to feel jealous. But one thing you need to know is that He who legalizes polygamy knows what is right for us. He is our Creator He knows us more than we know ourselves. He would never make it permissible if it was impossible."
Zoya suddenly sprinted back to life. "you're absolutely right. I will accept my fate and move on with my life. No point crying over spilled milk."
"Great. Adam is a good man, you don't have to worry much, you will be fine."
"I hope so." she checked the walk clock and see that it was getting dark. "my husband would be worried by now. I should get going." she said rising to her feet.
"Alright dear, do visit often."
Zoya closes the door behind her and got a cab home.
She got home to find her husband moving around the sitting room agitated.
"You got me worried, where have you been?" Adam mumbled and rush toward her
"I was at my aunt's place."
"I'm sorry about my outburst earlier. It's okay if you don't want me to take a second wife. I promise I won't pester you again."
"It's fine, do as you please."
"You said.."
"I said go ahead and fulfill your heart's desire. It's your right after all."
"Thanks, dear. I promise not to give you changes that would make you doubt my love and sincerity for you." Adam mumbled happily hugging her.
"Don't make promises that would be hard to fulfill."
"I am serious this time."
"So.. When would she come to visit?" Zoya asked to smugly.
"You will like to see her?"
"Of course. I would like to know the kind of woman my husband is getting married to."
"The truth is, I have not even proposed to her yet," Adam said scratching his head.
"So what's your next plan?" Zoya inquired raising her eyebrow.
"Since I have known your stand I will shoot my goal right away. Thank you for believing in me." He let out and parted her lightly.
