Dragon’s Delight Enters Its Final Chapter After a Decade of Breakfast Magic
After nearly ten years of pancakes, scones, and unforgettable mornings, Dragon’s Delight in Amsterdam’s De Pijp is announcing that the beloved café will soon begin its final chapter.
Founded in 2015 when Saima Awan turned her home baking passion into a café on Tolstraat, Dragon’s Delight quickly became a warm and welcoming breakfast destination for locals, students, and travelers from around the world.
Together with hospitality veteran Jade Ashworth, who joined in 2017, the pair built something truly special: a place where people could start their day with fluffy American pancakes, smashed avocado toast, homemade scones with clotted cream, hangover-saving smoothies, and the café’s legendary Full English breakfast.
Over the years, Dragon’s Delight became more than a café. It became a community hub — a sunny terrace by the Amstel where friendships formed over coffee, students studied over stacks of pancakes, and visitors discovered a little slice of comfort in Amsterdam.
Now, after a decade of early mornings, creativity, and countless cups of coffee, the Dragon’s Delight team has made the bittersweet decision to close the café once a new owner is found. Until that moment comes, the café will remain open as a “limited edition dining experience” — a chance for longtime guests and new visitors alike to enjoy their favorite dishes one more time.
“Dragon’s Delight has been our baby for ten years,” say owners Saima and Jade. “It’s been an incredible journey filled with amazing people, laughter, chaos, creativity, and a lot of pancakes. We’re so grateful to every customer, friend, neighbor, and staff member who made this place what it is.”
The team emphasizes that this isn’t just the end of a business — it’s the closing of a chapter filled with memories:
early morning regulars, post-party hangover cures, homemade cakes fresh from the oven, and a terrace full of sunshine and conversation.
“We’ve been lucky to welcome people from all over the world through our doors,” the team adds. “Dragon’s Delight has always been about community and creativity, and we hope people will come celebrate these final months with us.”
Dragon’s Delight invites everyone who has ever loved the café — whether you came for the pancakes, the scones, the smoothies, or simply the vibe — to stop by, share a breakfast, and raise a coffee to ten wonderful years.
From Saima, Jade, and the entire Dragon’s Delight team:
Thank you, Amsterdam. You made our little dragon fly.
More details about the final months and events will be shared via the café’s social media channels.
