Slavery in Jamaica ended in 1838, marking the beginning of a new chapter of freedom — one that is still honored every year on August 1st.
This day is spent commemorating resilience, culture, and community — and at NOMADS, we celebrate it through our Jamaican Jerk!
Jerk finds its roots in the Maroons — communities of formerly enslaved people who escaped into the mountains and built their own independent lives. They developed this style of cooking: slow, smoky, deeply spiced — designed to preserve food and stay hidden, but now known and loved around the world.
Our Island Fire brings that spirit to the table: charred pointed cabbage, bright heat from Madame Jeanette, fresh herb cream, crispy beans — all embraced by a rich, smoky jerk sauce.
Come taste this bit of history while it’s on the menu :)
