The Groove Nomads bring together influences from across the world, crafting original music where the deep funk of The Meters meets the laid-back atmosphere of Khruangbin and the infectious energy of Electro Deluxe. Warm grooves, open spaces and songs that breathe.Formed by musicians from Indonesia, Italy and the Netherlands, the trio has spent the past two years quietly building a following through clubs, bars and festivals across the Netherlands.

17 juli: Socks;SportsSocks + Coaster

Socks;SportsSocks Somewhere between discomfort and rock ‘n’ roll, between virtuosity and amateurism, between disarming honesty and irony, you’ll find Socks;SportsSocks—a Rotterdam band with a contemporary DIY mentality. Their sound balances between lo-fiindie and bedroom art-pop, with hints of ambient and post-punk. The result is music that captures the irony, struggles, and yearnings of being young in the modern era. This year, they released their debut album, Ironic Songs for a Sincere Generation—which they call their most dynamic and honest work to date

Coaster is the slowcore project of Bart Appeland Paul Dijkman. The duo, primarily guitarists, quickly bonded over their shared love for quiet and slow music. They build their songwriting upon the lo-fi and slowcore ideas of the 90s and 00s, drawing comparisons to Duster, Red House Painters, Low and Elliott Smith.

10 juli: Funkified met De Kraters

FUNKIFIED
De zoveelste editie van een party vol oude en nieuwe funky music. DJ Sorge & DJ Oscarhanteren een ruime definitie van funk: als het maar swingt en een funky ritme heeft. Vooraf is boven obscure en mindere bekende funk te horen en nadien is beneden de kans om te dansen op de meer bekendere funky klanken van funkmuziek in de ruime zin van het woord.

Eerst speelt De Kraters featuring Gezzebelleeen electro mix van “witte” funknummers  zoals LCD soundsystem en soul/funk a la Betty Davis. Kaartjes zijn te koop op onze website tot 19:30 de avond zelf! Daarna alleen bij de deur.

11 juli: De Kootjes BDAY-festijn! met Competition + Le Motat

Vanavond is het extra feest, want Mr Koot viert zijn 55e verjaardag bij De Nieuwe Anita. Mr & Mevr Koot serveren een pittige cocktail van smerige soul & funk, sexy disco edits, global grooves en opzwepende rock ’n roll, indie, wave, (post)punk, exotica en alles er tussenin. Dans op hun muziek zowel voor als na de bands!

LE MOTAT
Vernoemd naar een dier dat onder de categorie nachtvlinder valt, is LE MOTAT een act voor precies dat soort mensen: nachtbrakers. Ergens in een donkere steeg van het straatje Spinvis, André Hazes en Goldband schrijft en produceert hij indiebangers en tranentrekkers, die even poëtisch als direct van aard zijn. Echter, niet in het Frans, maar wel in de taal der liefde.

Competition
Is life rushing past you? Competition is there for anyone who feels like the hare but longs to be the tortoise. The band is on the hunt for an escape, and if you try to find them on Instagram, you’ll be directed to a Tumblr page. No algorithms, no endless doomscrolling—the fourpiece keeps their music raw and direct, free from excess or pretense. 2 juli: Duo-expositie opening: Marijke Hoenderdos & Kees Kerkhoven

Op 2 juli opent de nieuwe duo-expositie van Marijke Hoenderdos & Kees Kerkhoven in ons café. De opening is gratis toegankelijk en de expositie is te zien tot eind juli.

Marijke Hoenderdos exposeerde al in 1991 haar schilderijen van transseksuelen toen hun bestaan zich nog grotendeels in het geheim afspeelde. Nu lhbtqia heel bekend is en breed uitgedragen wordt exposeert Marijke haar schilderijen bij de Nieuwe Anita.

Zelf zegt Kees over zijn werk: “Zolang als ik me kan herinneren teken ik al. Als kind begonnen met Donaldduckjes en later ook nog geïnspireerd door andere stripfiguren. Nog later tekende ik echt van alles en nog wat.  Mijn werk op architectenbureaus had voor een deel ook met tekenen te maken, zowel technisch tekenen en schetsen als het maken van “artists impressions
