Back from Peru, Marloes shared what she learned from seeing the cacao-to-chocolate process up close.

Cacao starts as a fruit. From there, it’s fermented, dried and carefully selected by hand. Every step matters: time, precision, and attention to detail. All that care serves one thing and one thing only: building flavour complexity, which is what you get to taste in the end.

Behind every bean, there are people. In the Cusco region, Original Beans works with around 220 farmers growing rare Chuncho cacao - often in remote areas, far from traditional supply chains. A reliable partner makes all the difference.

Beyond paying fair prices, they invest in long-term impact: from supporting regenerative farms to establishing food projects like fish ponds. Marloes even tasted fresh fish straight from one! A small but powerful example of real change.
