Hey, it’s us again ☀️
As we get ready for this special pop-up happening this upcoming weekend, we wanted to finally share something we’ve been keeping close to our hearts for months:
The menu.

Honestly, putting this together was harder than we thought. We spent months discussing ideas, testing recipes, changing things, bringing them back again, tasting, re-tasting… all because there are simply too many beautiful bakes and comforting dishes we wanted to bring to the table.

But somewhere along the way, we realized something.
A good menu isn’t about having everything. It’s about choosing the dishes that make people feel something. The ones you keep thinking about after the last bite. The ones that feel comforting, nostalgic, exciting, and worth gathering around for.
And trust us — we know the struggle of standing in front of a menu thinking:
“Everything sounds too good… what do I even choose?”
So after months of careful curation (and many delicious test runs), here it is: our official Breakfast Lab menu.

A collection of Asian-inspired morning bakes, comforting flavors, and little things we genuinely cannot wait to share with you. Take a look, start planning your order, and hopefully get just as excited as we are for a slow sunny weekend filled with good food and good company.

Same Morning, Different Ritual
What does your morning look like?
Maybe it’s a quick coffee before work.
Maybe breakfast gets skipped entirely.
Maybe your first real meal doesn’t happen until lunch, somewhere between meetings and errands.
But where we come from, mornings move differently.

In many parts of Asia, breakfast isn’t something small squeezed into the day. It is the beginning of the day — slow, comforting, grounding. A table filled with warm breads, savoury dishes, sweet pastries, good drinks, and conversation. The kind of meal that wakes up not just your body, but your spirit too.

Growing up, breakfast meant care. It meant someone waking up early to prepare food before the world got busy.
It meant gathering around the table, even if only for a little while. It was a ritual — one that reminded us that nourishment can also feel like home.
For the past year, Mamabowls X Muniroh’s Bakery have been dreaming about how to bring more of that feeling into our neighbourhood.
And one morning, over coffee and conversation, an idea was born:
What if we shared the way our side of the world wakes up?

So this summer, we’re opening The Breakfast Lab — a space inspired by Asian morning rituals, built for slow mornings, good food, and community.
Expect Asian-inspired breads, comforting morning cakes, some savoury dishes with nostalgic flavours, and drinks made to be enjoyed under the warmth of the summer sun. A breakfast experience that feels familiar to some, and beautifully new to others.

More than anything, we want this to be a gathering place. A space to pause, share stories, and start the day together.

Some journeys begin with a destination.
Ours began with a question: How can food become something deeper than taste?

Over the last three visits to Korea, we found ourselves searching not only for recipes, but for meaning — for a new way to understand food, tradition, and connection. That journey eventually led us to the Korean Temple Food Centre, where Buddhist nuns welcomed us into a world where cooking is treated with patience, mindfulness, and profound respect.
Inspired by stories many of us have seen through Netflix shows like Culinary Wars featuring Venerable SunJae, or Chef’s Table with Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan, we experienced firsthand how temple cuisine is not simply about eating. It is about presence. About harmony with nature. About honoring every ingredient and every season.

Last year, during winter, we gathered around warming dishes and traditional banchan. This year, the journey continues.
On 13th June, Mamabowls invites you back for a very special Summer Edition Korean Temple Food Workshop — featuring an entirely new seasonal menu, fresh summer dishes, and hands-on cooking inspired by the wisdom and beauty of Korean temple cuisine.

This workshop is more than cooking.

It is a space created to slow down, to embrace food differently, and to reconnect — with ingredients, with culture, and with ourselves. We would love to welcome you into this special experience. 🌿
