This meal that was soon to become the height of fashion amongst ladies of substance and style, was invented by Anna, The Duchess of Bedford. Anna, the original IT girl, used to get a little peckish between lunch and supper and, being a trend setter she decided to invent a new social occassion by ordering beautiful sweet mouthfulls of cake and dainty sandwiches to enjoy with her girlfriends in the afternoon, all served with the finest quality tea.
