The Men From Nowhere

The Men From Nowhere play instrumental compositions by Jelle van Atten AKA Joe Sixpack.

The songs are heavily inspired by American styles from the 50s and 60s and are an authentic mix of, for example, country, surf, soul, exotica, and rockabilly.

The band plays with varying lineups centered around Joe on guitar. For the performance at Dizzy, he will be playing with: Donné La Fontaine on bass, Martin de Ruiter on drums, and the characteristic “mariachi style” double trumpet of Joe Rivera + Canek Cabrera. In any case… the band lineup at performances by The Men From Nowhere is always a unique event. With the high-profile release party at Rotown last December still fresh in our memory, The Men From Nowhere are returning to Rotterdam at Dizzy just half a year later on Sunday, July 5.

Their self-titled debut album was released late last year and is available to listen to digitally on all major platforms. Or are you looking for a starting point while you read this? Think of a cocktail of Dick Dale, Calexico, and Chet Atkins, the soundtrack of a spaghetti western, or your own fantasy version of Pulp Fiction.

Or as Herman van de Horst wrote in *Lust For Life* (4 stars): “Ghostriders in the firmament and lonely surfers, complete with a guitar twang like telephone cables across the Grand Canyon. But nowhere do they become pastiches. These compelling, magnificent little films stand entirely on their own.”

Tribute to Clifford Brown

Jonas Belleman is a trumpeter based in Haarlem. With his love for bebop, he is heavily influenced by artists such as 
Kenny Dorham, Fats Navarro, and Clifford Brown. He studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory. 

The tribute will consist of pieces made famous by Clifford Brown.
