When I started up Casa de Sanchez 6 months ago..a full service, 7 night a week Tapas Restaurant with live music in Amberley people told me I was crazy. Turns out they were right..and if I wasn’t crazy then it certainly sent me crazy! The most enjoyable, stressful, rewarding, dangerous, delightful, unpredictable, all consuming beast of a project I’ve ever taken on. I called her the Titanic from day one..constantly plugging holes and replacing popped rivets. There was a a couple of sneaky torpedoes fired into her side a few months ago that set her limping along...and as the captain I simply drunk too much rum to steer her out of trouble. Crew jumped overboard to save themselves one by one and eventually the iceberg was unavoidable, I run out fingers and toes to plug all the holes in her side and she sunk in spectacular fashion a few weeks ago. Now the story should end there....but adversity either makes you or breaks you, so just as I was going down with the ship and I was being swallowed by the immensity of the situation I realised that as a stubborn optimist I actually do see new opportunity in this...So I’m raising the Titanic, scrubbing off the barnacles and restarting the engines. It won’t look or feel like the same old lumbering broken vessel, but Casa de Sanchez will be back very soon..sleeker, with a whole new concept, whole new menu and a new captain to run the ship. The ethos remains the same, fresh and local, but the style will be different. Thanks to all the passengers who came aboard and enjoyed dining when she was in full steam....watch this space!
