Dear friends of Tot’s Pantry. It’s been a while now since I last prepared healthy food for babies and pre-schoolers in New Zealand. Since then my family and I have travelled to Africa to spend 4 months getting to know some of the places on this beautiful continent. Travelling with our 11&9 year old kids has at times been challenging but I know their eyes have been opened to the world beyond the safety and stability of New Zealand. We have spent the last 4 weeks volunteering with an NGO called Free Haven Community Initiative.
Free Haven are a wonderful organisation, they are a small charity working directly with schools and underprivileged families to break the cycle of poverty through providing food, education, health services, empowerment and counselling. Their solutions focus on providing a sustainable future for Zambians, however there is a long journey ahead.
The drought throughout the region has made life especially tough for many people already below the poverty line, food prices have tripled, and we only have power for 6 hours of the day. We’re well aware that times are tough everywhere, but if you can spare even a very small amount of dollars, these will go a very long way here in Zambia. Please take the time to have a look at the Free Haven Community Initiative and if you agree with us that it’s worthwhile then please consider donating. We are seeing first hand the impact they are making with children ♥️
And please follow Free Haven Community Initiative on Facebook!
Love, Catherine x
