Both natives of Mexico City, their passion for food, service and uncompromising focus on food quality made Mexican Specialities a haven for people who wanted to experience truly authentic Mexican food – made by Mexican hands. Mexican Specialities’ new owner Chonticha [“Christine”] is excited to continue the tradition that Jose and Maria started – a small part of Mexico we can all share. She and her family have been loyal followers of Mexican Specialities’ Ellerslie café since it first opened, and her children have grown with a regular Saturday morning walk to Mexican Specialities for their weekly Mex fix. Be assured, Jose’s amazing recipes will remain faithful and be made for you the way he made them – after all why change perfection? The only thing that will continue to change, and has already moved, is adding more opening hours – this is something you have asked us to do, so we have. In addition to authentic Mexican comfort food, just the way Jose made it, Mexican Specialities sells a unique collection of Mexican Hand Crafts, both online and in the café, and has a fantastic range of Mexican packaged foods that can be enjoyed at home - the staples of any honest Mexican meal.
