The CAFE HUB

The CAFE HUB Sharing positive news & overviews of the cafes we all encounter on our travels. A blog for those of us enthused and passionate about cafe culture!

2016 - A new year has begun and now as the proud PAST owners of 'BUCKLANDS espresso lounge' at Bucklands Beach (est. Nov 2011- Nov 2015) we thought, as our avid followers, that we should join forces and use our connection to now share our positive views and enjoyment of the cafes we each frequent on our travels. While on holiday or venturing out for a break from work, maybe just meeting a friend a

t your favourite spot with great coffee that's just too good to keep to yourselves, now you have a blog spot on Facebook to share this experience for others to try. While we are no longer a part of the cafe we retain our FB page that began as we built our cafe business back four years ago. Now it is a blog for those of us enthused and passionate about sharing our cafe culture in many different parts of the country! Welcome to The CAFE HUB! from the coffee clan - Kitty & Steve

Dotcom must have known something when he moved to Coatesville as there is a real gem of a cafe situated in the middle of town.
The Black Cottage Cafe is easy to miss if you don’t know where it is, as it has a rather understated frontage but once you step inside it opens up and is a real treat, in a rustic country kinda way.
The place just opens up in front of you, a fireplace...an outdoor area that can be opened up to take in the country air or large drop down screens to keep the cooler weather out. The amount of choice of where to sit and enjoy the view or indeed the great coffee and food they prepare is superb. Coffee is Allpress and if you like your coffee, like I do you will appreciate the barista here!
The food is fantastic too... as I always order the poached eggs on toast I wasn’t disappointed as perfect free range eggs. By the look of my family’s faces they also loved their meals as well. Creative fare with some quirky combinations which really work on both the breakfast and lunch menus.
Top service led by a couple of great hosts. Licensed.
Great weekend spot for breaky or lunch... pop in to Hallertau Brewery( Riverhead) for a brew on the way there or on your return journey.
Great decor, service, coffee and food... a real go to spot for me.

The Parkhouse....It’s a newly created gem in Whenuapai, yes Whenuapai, North West Auckland. Just a short drive from Hobsonville Pt, this is a place worth visiting! It’s only been open for 2 weeks but they have really hit the ground running with big ticks all around. Good service, great coffee and based on my eggs on toast...great food. It’s easy to find on the main road running through Whenuapai and the decor and fit out is very well done... airy and sun filled with great views over both the park and very cool playground to keep the little ones happy. It has a nice covered outdoor area (with heaters) and when we visited was buzzing along and almost full.
They are open for breakfast and lunch but understand evenings are not far away too. They are licensed.
They know what they are doing and have created a nice piece of magic for both the locals in the area and for those venturing from other parts of Auckland.
Check out their page to for more info...see you there!

Wandered into Meadow for a coffee and a hot chocolate.
They have done a great job with the fit out and while it's a little restaurant/ bar like we were served up a couple of great drinks with a smile. Sat at the large table in the bar area opposite the kitchen which was sort of odd but cool.
They use Allpress coffee which is always good and was well made.
The restaurant was buzzing with the hip Remuera crowd and looked like a pleasant place for a long lunch.
Check it out if your passing by on St Johns Rd (20).

Popped into Howick today for a coffee with a friend and met at the new boys on the block "URBAN in east".
It was a refreshing change to others that have populated this corner and looked very much like they know what they are doing.
The counter food, the menu, the decor and the coffee was a breath of fresh air and the staff were friendly and helpful.
I only had time to grab a coffee ( Union espresso ) which was well made. What I liked most was all the wee details that they got right. Serving tea in tea pots, hot water on the side of my long black , decent sugar on the table and milk served in small cream style bottles.
Look forward to going back to try the food which looked tasty and the servings generous.
Check it out as they are a nice option when in Howick.

Hey there everyone... been to a great cafe lately? Share your experience at The Cafe Hub! Found a great cafe in Timaru, Christchurch, Bulls, Hamilton or even Coolangatta? We want to know! Don't tell us about the 'bad news' cafes, but the ones that really make you excited after a darn good coffee! We are only into positive stuff.
We are into sharing only the good stuff and yes we do realise that we are all individuals and like different things. So what makes me happy may not necessarily be your thing. Look for those special wee things that just impress you... might be the coffee, the service, the cool chairs, an outdoor area, the breakfast, the Barista or even the location?! Post it so others can visit.

Cheers,
Head Hubmeister

brd (Benson Road Deli) has been around for almost as long as me, well that's probably an exaggeration but it has always has been a safe bet.Good to know that things haven't changed when I popped in for a spot of breaky and coffee before a meeting. While other places have come and gone they still roll along doing what they do well.
The staff are always good and coffee and food tick all the boxes.
And when you've done pop next door to pick up some flowers at the best flower shop in Remuera, Simply Flowers on Benson!

Revisited "friends & allies" again and it was as I expected.... Busy and humming. Sat out in the back area which was the only space left. Nice space with a "spacious" feel. Coffee was great and the berry smoothie was better.
Food tasted as good as it looked.
Worth popping in for a Latte and Lamington !

Six forty six... Revisited.
Lovely sunny afternoon in Whangamata and a coffee, mango smoothie and cheese roll!
Was as good as I remembered and the service was excellent .
My daughter wasn't so fussed on the Mango Lassi but they to their credit made her a lovely hot chocolate.
Good stuff... Coffee was superb!
