While the restaurant is in full swing, the mahi behind the scenes never stops.
Today, alongside service, prep and everything else that comes with running a busy restaurant, we also cooked, packed and delivered another round of our FREE community meals.

Today’s menu was roast chicken with a creamy mushroom sauce, baby potatoes and peas. A simple, hearty meal made with one hope in mind… that it brings a little warmth, comfort and a full puku to those who need a little awhi.

These meals have gone out to support members of our community, our kaumātua, and whānau across Motu Pohue | Bluff. While we don’t always share this side of what we do, every single time we do it, know that it still remains one of the most meaningful parts of our kaupapa.

A huge mihi to KiwiHarvest, whose continued awhi makes initiatives like this possible. By rescuing perfectly good food and getting it back into communities, they’re helping us ensure good kai ends up where it belongs, which is on people’s tables, not in landfill. Together we’re able to create stronger, more connected and resilient communities, one meal at a time.

If you haven’t received a meal from us, please don’t feel discouraged. There are still hundreds more to cook and distribute as time, resources and capacity allow. We’ll keep doing what we can, whenever we can.

To everyone enjoying one of these meals tonight, we hope it brings a little comfort and a warm puku.

Ngā mihi nui to KiwiHarvest for walking alongside us in this kaupapa. Together, we’re proving that manaakitanga is strongest when it’s shared x

Six years ⚓️
Today marks six years since I picked up the keys and established my own wee business Hayz At The Anchorage Restaurant & Bar.

Looking at these two photos, I can see the excitement in the first one. I can also see someone who had absolutely no idea what lay ahead. So naive lol😄

What I couldn’t have known that day was just how much this little restaurant would shape my life.

The last six years have been filled with incredible highs, heartbreaking lows, endless lessons, long days, sleepless nights, blessed moments, uncertainty, laughter, both happy and sad tears, hundreds of hugs and more challenges than I ever imagined. There were moments I questioned all my life decisions & whether I had anything left to give, and there were moments that reminded me exactly why I started and encouraged me to excel beyond my own beliefs.

Through it all, you’ve all been there.
Whether you’ve dined with us once, become one of our regulars, have been part of our team, shared our posts, commented words of encouragement, trusted us with your celebrations, supported our community initiatives or simply cheered us on from afar… you’ve become part of this journey too.

Normally I’d be planning an anniversary special or finding a way to celebrate with you all.
But Truthfully, my heart is somewhere else this week. My focus is with my whānau, and today I’m simply grateful.

Grateful that we made it this far.
Grateful that these doors are still open.
Grateful for every person who has walked through them.

Six years ago I was handed a set of keys. What those keys unlocked turned out to be so much bigger than just a restaurant. I rebuilt myself. I’ve created a legacy. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for walking this journey with me. Here’s to six years and many more years to come 💜⚓️

Well sh!t….this still doesn’t feel quite real… your girl is one of Six Chefs taking part in this year’s A Dinner for Scott 🥹💜🙋‍♀️

I’m incredibly excited and genuinely honoured, to be part of this year’s A Dinner for Scott as it celebrates its fifth anniversary.

This event is so much more than an incredible evening of kai. Over the past five years it has brought together some of the country’s most talented chefs, created opportunities for Rangatahi, awarded scholarships, inspired the next generation of chefs, and celebrated some of the very best producers and sponsors here in Murihiku.

To be invited to stand alongside Hannah Childs, Paul Froggatt, Adam Harrison, Archana Kurup and Thomas Wright is such an incredible privilege, and I can’t wait to share a taste of Murihiku on the night. You know how we do 😉

A huge congratulations to Ethan and Lee for organising another sold-out event! It’s a testament to what this event has become and the impact it continues to have, Scott would be incredibly proud of you both.

Roll on 8 August, less than 3weeks away! I can’t wait! 💫

📸 Best. Kia Ora magazine selfie. Ever ✈️
I think it’s safe to say our Mama Dee has officially taken out the award for the best Kia Ora magazine selfie so far!😍

After everything she’s been through over the past few months, seeing that smile says it all. She is off enjoying a very well-deserved break in Australia, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier for her. Soak up every moment, Dee… you’ve more than earned it☀️🇦🇺

A little PSA while she’s away… our beautiful Mama Dee will be on leave for the next few weeks, so you’ll all be stuck with me! (Pray for me hahaha 😅) We’ll continue doing everything we can to keep the ship sailing, but we do ask for a little extra patience and understanding while we cover the gap. We’ve been incredibly busy lately, and our team is giving it everything they’ve got.

Thank you all for your understanding, your support, and for looking after us while we look after you.

⚠️ A quick heads up whānau ⚠️
Unfortunately, Google has changed our trading hours, and despite submitting corrections and speaking directly with Google to have them confirmed, the incorrect hours are still showing.

This has already resulted in customers being told we’re closed when we’re actually open, and others arriving on days we’re not trading.

Until Google sorts it out, please refer to our page for our current trading hours, or flick us a message if you’re unsure.

Our current trading hours are:
🗓 Wednesday – Sunday
⏰ 11:30am – 2pm (kitchen hours)
🗓️ Thursday - Saturday
⏰4:30pm - 7pm (kitchen hours)
🚫 Closed Monday & Tuesday

We sincerely apologise for any confusion this has caused and appreciate your patience while we work with Google to get it corrected.

Ngā mihi,
Hayz at The Anchorage 💜

From Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Rotorua and Napier, to Brisbane, Kenya and beyond… it’s been incredible watching a little story from the bottom of Aotearoa make its way around the world.

A huge thank you to every single person who has taken the time to snap a selfie, send a photo, or let us know where you’ve taken the Air New Zealand Kia Ora magazine. Every message genuinely makes my day.

We’ve only got around two weeks left before this edition leaves the aircraft, so if you’re flying this month, I’d absolutely love to see where our story ends up next. Tag us, send us a photo, or flick us a message and let us know where you’re reading it.

And a little reminder… those magazines are yours to keep! 😊. We’ve already had a few kind people donate theirs, and it’s been lovely having copies here for our diners to read x

Thank you all for taking a little piece of Bluff along for the journey. I can’t wait to see where we end up next ✈️🌍
