Ahead of our upcoming Winemakers' Dinner, we sat down with Quartz Reef founder and winemaker Rudi Bauer.

For Rudi, great wine is all about balance. Not complexity or prestige, but something much simpler: a wine that tastes great and leaves you wanting another glass.

A firm believer that New Zealand's winemaking future relies on both tradition and experimentation, Rudi has spent decades helping shape Central Otago into one of the world's most exciting wine regions.

His favourite Quartz Reef vintages? 2002, 2008, 2023 and 2024, each representing a unique moment in the winery's journey.
