Letter to San Cristóbal de las Casas,

Thank you for welcoming us into your streets, your markets, and your culture.

Walking through the tianguis and seeing people still gathering to trade goods reminded me that some traditions remain alive despite the passing of time. It was inspiring to see artisans proudly sharing their work, preserving techniques and stories that have been passed down through generations.

The textiles, the hand embroidery, the colors, and the attention to detail are some of the finest expressions of craftsmanship we have seen on this journey. We came looking for pieces that could bring character and authenticity to Xolo, and we found so much more than that.

One of the things I will remember most is hearing people speaking their own dialects in everyday life. It was a beautiful reminder that culture is not something kept in museums—it is alive in the voices, hands, and traditions of the local people.

Thank you, San Cristóbal, for sharing your art, your history, and your way of life with us. We leave inspired, carrying a small piece of your craftsmanship and spirit back to Xolo.

With gratitude,

Carlos

Letter to Chiapa de Corzo,

After eight years, it was a pleasure to return to Chiapas and begin this part of the journey in your beautiful town. This time, Karla joined the adventure, making the experience even more special.

Walking through your streets while hearing marimbas playing around the town reminded me why this place feels so unique. Drinking cacao pozol under the Chiapas heat, watching daily life unfold, and discovering a taco culture I wasn't expecting was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes the simplest tacos tell the deepest stories.

One of the highlights was meeting a local restaurateur who generously shared his experiences and gave me a glimpse into what it means to run a restaurant and build a life in this part of Mexico. Those conversations are often as valuable as any meal.

Thank you for the music, the hospitality, the stories, and the flavors. It was a joy to be back.

Until next time,

Carlos

Letter to Sierra Norte y Papaloapan:
You showed me a different side of Oaxaca, one filled with incredible people, beautiful landscapes your sierra is honestly beautiful, and traditions that are still deeply connected to the land. I was lucky enough to learn from locals, producers, and families who generously shared their knowledge and stories with me, I don't want to sound repetitive but for real, every single human i meet in Mexico has been amazing to me.

I also happened to spend some time in Oaxaca's pineapple capital Loma Bonita which probably explains why I ate more pineapple than I ever have, in any version, fresh, preparada con salsas, jam, teacher, fresh juice.

As always, the best part of the journey was the people. Thank you for your hospitality, your generosity, and for sharing a small piece of your world with me.

Until next time.

Carlos

Carta to The Oaxaca Coast offers a completely different perspective on Oaxacan culture.

Here, the ocean shapes everything. In Chacahua, tichindas become the star of traditional tamales. In Puerto Escondido, fishermen head out before sunrise and return with the day's catch, while oysters pulled straight from the rocky shoreline carry the unmistakable taste of the Pacific.

Some memories are hard to put into words: sharing a michelada and shrimp cocktail overlooking Zicatela, watching the sunset with a mezcalita in hand at a beach bar in La Punta, or simply sitting with locals whose connection to the sea runs generations deep.

The Oaxacan coast is vibrant, relaxed, and full of life. It's a place where fresh seafood, salt air, mezcal, and community come together in a way that feels uniquely Oaxacan.

Experiencing this part of Mexico helped me understand why people say Oaxaca has everything.

And honestly, they're right.

Muchas Gracias,

Carlos
