One of our key values at Kinloch is environment and we have been on a journey that started in 2000 to continually improve our environmental footprint. This is about energy use. In 2017 we started on the electric vehicle journey and 2018 purchased a Tesla as we realised we were doing 1000 km a week and any trip between Kinloch and Queenstown amounted to 25kg of carbon. In 2020 we put in power walls and solar to service the EcoScapes. Our aim eventually is to be self-sufficient and 95% off grid at Kinloch. Today marks a year since adding power walls and solar. This screen shot shows we have 55% self powered. Our lowest months are June and July when we only produce 21% of our needed supply this was just 385 kwh. Our best month was November at 93% selfpowered where we produced 1992 kwh and used 1431 kwh. The excess power produced goes back to the grid and we are paid 8c a kwh. We still need more power than we produce even in the peak months. When our batteries are full and solar is pumping, this is the time when we charge the car, do the washing, heat the spa pool etc. It is a new way of thinking about resources. We bought our solar in through and The output of the system a year to the day on has been within 5% of what their estimate was in cost savings. Not only does this help the environment, it helps our business save money. Let's keep moving for climate change.
