We’re excited to welcome campers to the Niagara Falls Bluegrass & Roots Festival! Before you set up, here are a few important details to keep in mind:

The campsite is an open area, kindly made available for festival-goers, but it's not a maintained campground. This means you are welcome to park and camp at your own risk. The festival, hall committee, landowners, and Niagara Falls Café are not responsible for any damage or loss that may occur.

There will be Portaloos on-site, but no running water or showers, so come prepared. Bring your own water, and you can head down to Curio for a splash in the waves if you need a wash.

Camping is first in, first served from Thursday night onwards. There’s plenty of space, so please be polite and respectful—no need to rush or claim large areas.

If you’re up for a "lively" campsite experience, set up toward the north end of the paddock, near the Hall, but we suggest If you have kids or prefer a quieter spot, the Café end of the site is the better choice.

To keep the festival fun and enjoyable for everyone, organisers reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if they are not being festival-friendly.

We are charging adults $10 per person, per night, for camping. These proceeds help look after our precious, historic Niagara Hall.

It wouldn't be Niagara without this!
Get ready once again for the toe tapping, lively bluegrass and country music of The Hayes Family band!

This Southland institution features Marylyn, Steven and Kelsi Hayes. Marylyn and Steven first made waves as members of the legendary Progress Valley Possum Pickers, a name that Southlanders will fondly recall from many woolsheds and rural halls throughout the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s. The Possum Pickers were notable nominees and winners of many Country music competitions throughout the ‘80s, featured on national TV, telethons, Country Calendar, and were inducted into the NZ country music hands of fame in 2009.

Steven Hayes was also a Rugby Southland prop in the ‘90s that even Jonah Lomu couldn't get past. Around this time he and Marylyn formed The Swede Eaters with Jeremy and Paul Winders, and Craig Hall, combining rugby player “intellect and culture” with Irish country punk anarchy! Steven’s skills on the fiddle earned him the title of Southland Entertainer of the Year in 2016!

Marylyn’s piano accordion playing, interacts and harmonizes with Steven’s fiddle licks, creating a uniquely family sound. Kelsi, herself a Southland Rugby rep, sings co-lead vocals and strums acoustic guitar and banjo, adding her encyclopedic song knowledge to the family performances.

As the co-founder of the Niagara Falls Bluegrass and Roots Festival, Steven has ensured that his love of bluegrass and country music has lived on through his family and helped to strengthen Southland's strong ties to the genres. Marylyn and Steven were presented with a Community service award in 2023 for their contributions to music and entertainment in the district.
The Hayes Family Band has become a local favourite, making regular appearances on Stewart Island for New Year’s celebrations and pubs across the province.
