The Woolshed Cafe & Heritage Walk

The Woolshed Cafe & Heritage Walk Maybe make a day of it with our 90 minute audio guided Heritage Walk, a trip down memory lane.

We are the Woolshed Cafe & Heritage Walk on SH1, Sanson,
Whether taking a break or catching up with friends, enjoy our spacious cafe and great Kiwi hospitality. The Woolshed Cafe is owned by Alan and Frances who bought the property in 2011. After farming in the Hawkes Bay for many years we decided to return home to Manawatu and try our hand at something new. We bought the Old Manor which had caugh

t on fire in 2009 but soon sadly realized that the beautiful old building was too damaged to restore. On our trips home from Hawkes Bay we often passed an iconic black woolshed (on State Highway 50) we admired so much and that became the inspiration for the new cafe. Demolition of the Old Manor started in the summer of 2011, it was a slow process as we sought to re-cycle as much of the old building as possible and all the wooden floors, doors and tables in the new cafe have all been crafted from the re-cycled timber. The building of the Woolshed Cafe started at the end of March and was completed in September 2012. The Woolshed Cafe offers a relaxing spacious eating experience with friendly service. The different areas in the cafe enable us to cater for groups of different sizes and needs without compromise. So whether you are wanting to get out into the countryside for a relaxing breakfast or lunch, traveling past on your way somewhere else and need a breather or are planning a private function, the Woolshed Cafe is the place to go.

Hello friends,

For those not quite sure what we are up to, AI got this pretty much right a few hours after last nights post, well done Meta AI!
Traditional craftsmanship we might be a little light on courtesy of Mr (or Mrs) Makita, our rudimentary building skills will only take us so far.

Hello friends,

Not much of a picture today, this taken back in April on Day 1 of our new project. We get asked alot by visitors "When is the next house coming?" so finally happy to announce our creation of an 1840 Slab Hut. We will keep you updated with the progress and some info about the various features.
Our thanks go to Rob Green (Kimbolton), who has helped out with some construction planning.

Stay tuned!

Hello friends,
Very pleased to report a beautiful Winter morning here today. expecting a high of 15 deg, make the most of it before the next lot of rain tomorrow.
Frosts have gone again after 4 in the last 5 days, the number that you need is 10.15, that's about the time it's safe to venture outdoors without fear of frostbite🫨
Slow start to the school holidays on the roads here, really no signs of congestion at all coming from the South.
Drive carefully all the same and enjoy the day!

Hello Friends,

Brrrr, yes we are feeling it here, fortunately not the gales that Taranaki and Wellington got but very wet here currently, not ideal for the few brave souls negotiating the Heritage Walk.
Very pleased to see some sanity returning in the Middle East, it's been an up and down 3 months for many of us, however bookings are returning now which is most welcome. On that, we encourage all groups above 6 to book in advance, reserve a table if you are coming between 11.30 and 1.00 to avoid any disappointment, especially in the weekends.
Take care and keep warm, from the Woolshed Team.

Hello friends,

Well well well, what have we witnessed?!! It may be the shortest day today but unlikely to feel like that for the Chiefs supporters.
Congratulations to the all conquering Hurricanes on an outstanding season, expecting plenty of smiling faces in the Cafe today😁
Wishing all our supporters a great day!

Hello friends,

Well there is only 1 story today, no not the beautiful Winter day we had yesterday, the various political announcements that are starting to dominate our newsfeeds or even the end of the war in Iran (?) It all comes down to tonight, we wish both teams all the best but of course there can only be one winner, cmon you Hurricanes!!!
It looks like puffer jackets and ponchos so wrap up and drive carefully.😉

Hello Friends,
Just a little Tuesday evening humour that is too good not to share, and from a very unlikely source, the Government!
We get food recall notices almost every week, very rarely affecting the products we use and fortunately not in this case, I guess the clue was in the label😁

Hello friends,

Back into it today, with Wednesday being our Monday, and always plenty to do at the start of the week! This very settled weather has continued, with only 4mm of rain in the past month enabling plenty of outside work here on our new "project" (Posts to follow), and some beautiful sunsets.
We've also had a "Content creator" out for a visit as we look to give our Heritage Walk a bit of promotion, so thank you to Rebecca (Ripeka Ripeka) for her work with us.
Kings birthday this weekend so expecting a few more folks out and about so plan your weekend dining with that in mind.

Travel safe from the Team.
