As the lodge rests through winter, our kitchen is anything but quiet.

Behind the scenes, our team is busy creating and refining the new season's menu -we can't wait to share what's cooking for the season ahead!

to some of the beautiful dishes we've had the pleasure of serving over the past few seasons has us counting down to October, when we'll once again welcome guests to the restaurant.

A small but useful fact: you can still buy a Ratanui gift voucher right now, even with the doors shut.

It's a genuinely good move if you've got a birthday, anniversary, spring surprise or "just because" occasion coming up - give someone the gift of a stay they get to plan themselves, the moment we reopen.

No pressure, no rush, just a really good excuse for them to start daydreaming about Golden Bay.

Link in bio. We promise the unwrapping is the easy part.

Today marks Matariki - the rising of the star cluster that signals the Māori New Year, and a national public holiday here in Aotearoa.

It's a time for three things: remembering those who've passed, celebrating where we are now, and setting intentions for what's ahead.

For us, that feels fitting.

We're mid-way through our own quiet season, getting ready for what spring brings, and there's something grounding about marking that alongside the rest of the country.

Wherever you are, we hope you get a moment to look up at the stars tonight. Mānawatia a Matariki.

Mornings feel different in Golden Bay.

The first coffee is brewed. The breakfast menu is prepared to order. Sunlight filters through the dining room as another peaceful day begins.

Whether you're lingering over a long breakfast before exploring the beauty of Golden Bay, or simply enjoying the luxury of having nowhere to be, it's the perfect way to start the day.

Golden Bay has always attracted creators:
Potters.
Painters.
Woodworkers.
Makers.
Dreamers.

Perhaps it's the landscape.
Perhaps it's the slower pace.
Or perhaps it's simply a place that gives people room to create.

One of our favourite ways to spend a winter afternoon is exploring the studios and galleries scattered throughout the region.

You won't find chain stores here - you'll find artists opening workshop doors and sharing the stories behind their work.

The shortest day.
The longest night.

From tomorrow, the light begins its quiet return.

Here in Golden Bay, winter invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the rhythms of nature - a beautiful reminder that every season has its purpose 😊

Happy winter solstice - how are you spending the shortest day of the year?

Takaka doesn’t try to be anything other than itself - and that’s exactly why people fall for it.

With its collection of independent shops, thriving community of local artists, and friendly conversations that often last longer than expected, Takaka captures the authentic spirit of Golden Bay in a way few places can.

From our Lodge, it’s just a short drive into the heart of this creative and welcoming township, where every visit feels a little different from the last.

Tag someone who loves discovering the character and charm of small-town travel 😊

Even in winter, the Abel Tasman remains one of New Zealand’s most elegant landscapes. Golden sand, sculpted bays, and a stillness that feels almost private at this time of year.

From our Lodge, it’s an adventure into one of the country’s great coastal walks - but in winter, it feels like a secret shared only with those willing to wander.

Tag someone you’d explore the Abel Tasman with!

Some days at Ratanui were built for doing absolutely nothing.

A book. A glass of something cold. A platter for two poolside.

This is the version of Golden Bay that lingers in memory long after checkout.

Winter makes us appreciate it even more.
