Great work always comes back to collaboration.

This project began through working closely with Chantel Matthews on her vision for the Kurutai Collective booth at the . A bold space designed to draw people in, and experience the works up close.

Our role was to take that idea and together bring it into form. We designed and built custom rendered plinths, shaped through scale and proportion.

Careful consideration was given to how people move through a space while embracing the precious uku works.

And the final layer, getting the terracotta tone, just right.

Every great project is a result of working together, of collaboration, respect and understanding; between the idea and the making, and between design and craftsmanship.

Not typical of Ambitec’s usual role in a project, however one we thoroughly enjoyed.

Four days immersed in contemporary art, and it’s still sitting with us.

Earlier this month, we spent time at the , surrounded by artists, galleries, and conversations that felt thoughtful, generous, and deeply human.

We were honoured to support William Austin Gallery and the Kurutai Collective , both presenting intergenerational exhibitions rich in materiality, story, and dialogue.

Our contribution was intentionally quiet.
Soft textured walls to gently hold the artworks.
Custom rendered plinths in a warm terracotta tone, responding to clay, form, and the idea of kurutai; brackish water- flowing between elements.

What stayed with us most were the moments of pause.
People slowing down.
Leaning in.
Letting the space and the art speak together.

Supporting artists and the creative community feels inseparable from how we work; collaborative, considered, and grounded in respect for craft and material integrity.
