Gosh, what a treat from Waimate Berries to finish off a Friday afternoon 🍓🍓

If you’re local, you’ll already know - their strawberries and ice creams are hard to beat. And if you’re passing through South Canterbury, it’s well worth the detour. Between the berries, great food spots, and excellent shops, Waimate has plenty going on these days.

You’ll also find Waimate Berries at the fabulous Saturday Market in town selling super large strawberries like these - another good reason to seek them out!

Delivery weekend for our point-of-lay pullets is just around the corner! We’re currently working through emails to everyone on the March delivery list, so keep an eye on your inbox over the next couple of days.

If you’re booked for a later batch and noted that you’re happy to take birds earlier, we’ll be in touch if any become available. We’ll work through these in the order that bookings were received.

A couple of quick things to note:
⭐️ We are currently sold out for our next two batches
⭐️ I’m working hard to respond to your enquiries via phone/email/text/facebook to let you know about the next available stock
⭐️ We are working to update the website to include a waitlist - I don’t like to oversell, so that may mean I will have limited numbers of point-of-lay pullets available in the coming months … I’ll update when we have this system in place and touch base with people on the waitlist when stock becomes available.
⭐️ Day-old chicks arrive this week, and we have plenty available if you’d like a go at rearing your own!

This morning’s commercial delivery is packed ready for their scenic journey through the Lindis Pass to their new Central Otago home 🥰.

We’re now sold out for January, with our deliveries for household customers starting over the weekend.

🎉 Happy New Year from The Chicken Lady! 🎉

We finished 2025 by welcoming a new addition to the team — Baby Emily 🐣💗

She’s small, a bit noisy, likes her food on demand, and currently contributes zero labour… but we’re confident she’ll grow into the role 😅

A special thank you to our family, friends & chicken tenders for keeping the wheels in motion at the farm over the holiday period 🥰

And to our customers, thanks for all the support, recommendations and purchases last year - it means a lot. Here’s to a cracking year ahead! 🍳

Did you get day-old chicks from us in October? Hopefully they’re looking as happy and healthy as those reared by some enthusiastic wee chicken tenders at Waimate Childcare!

It was great to see the love, care and attention the chicks were given by the children over the past month & while they’ve now been purchased for a donation to the centre I’m sure they will be the most well-socialised young chickens in town!

It’s our Central Otago point of lay delivery day today!

And it also happens to be the Chicken Man’s (Adam’s) Birthday! 🥳

He’s joined me for today’s run (aka a day of heavy lifting), so make sure to wish him a Happy Birthday when you collect your new girls 😉.

Adam might call himself the “repairs and maintenance” guy, but he also gets lumped with a fair share of the other unglamorous jobs - lugging feed bags, wrangling chicken crates, tackling shed clean-outs, and clocking up delivery miles across the island.

On top of that he’s running a sheep and beef farm, and still manages to be an awesome Dad at the end of a long day.
