Wellington Gold Awards Celebrating Inspiring Wellington Businesses The Wellington Gold Awards are an annual celebration of the greater Wellington region's business community.

The Awards Night is an important date in the business calendar, over 600 people attend a red carpet event at Wellington's iconic Embassy cinema to celebrate inspiring Wellington businesses and their teams. Special Tributes are also given to deserving individuals and special projects or initiatives that have had a positive impact on the region.

2026 New Thinking Award: PROF RATU MATAIRA
As a child, Ratu (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu) was fascinated by the convergence of science and real-world solutions. This curiosity led him to study physics at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, complete a PhD at the University’s Robinson Research Institute and in 2021, become the founder of nuclear fusion start-up OpenStar.

Green Gold at last night's Gold Awards goes to Uniplas. They've gone big on solar, and we mean big. The rooftop array on their site in Lower Hutt is officially the largest in Wellington by more than double, and it's up there with the biggest privately owned solar installations in the whole country.

Great to see them leading the charge on green energy. Congrats to the whole team 👏

Huge night for a Wellington company with the best origin story going around. Mufftech took out the Supreme Award at last night's Gold Awards, and it all started because a tradie got sick of clunky ear protection on site.

Founder Simon Stone reckons his wife told him to stop moaning and actually fix the problem. Three years later, Mufftech's premium Bluetooth hearing protection is selling worldwide and the business is booming.

Designed by tradies, for tradies. Can't argue with that.
