Once upon a time (in November last year), two 24-year-olds with a dream took a risk…
They took over a Wellington institution: a local establishment of nine years, a morning staple for many Wellingtonians ☕️
With all our savings were gone, we acquired a third place, both for the local community and for us, too!
Hundreds of baguettes made with love every morning, thousands of coffees, dozens of new plants from Facebook Marketplace, and nine months in, we’re still slowly shaping Staple Espresso into what we want it to be 🥹

Meet Twiggy: a new Staple resident 🌱
I spotted Twiggy on my routine five-times-a-day Facebook Marketplace check and immediately sent Jaden to get him. Twiggy is a coffee plant who was looking for a new home 🥺
What could be better than a local coffee shop!
I just got him some new digs in a nice terracotta pot and we hope to grow Twiggy into a fully-fledged tree who may even someday produce fruit. And that you’ll watch him grow up with us ❤️
