📖 What the Bible Says About Mother’s Day Celebration
Short answer: The Bible never mentions or commands a specific "Mother’s Day" holiday, but it clearly commands us to honor, respect, love, and value mothers — which is exactly what this celebration is about. It is biblical and good, as long as it aligns with God’s principles.
✅ Key Biblical Truths
1. Honoring mothers is a divine command
◦ Exodus 20:12: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." (5th Commandment, with a promise of blessing)
◦ Ephesians 6:2–3: "‘Honor your father and mother’ — which is the first commandment with a promise — ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’" (repeated in New Testament)
◦ Leviticus 19:3: "Revere your mother and your father… I am the Lord your God."
"Honor" means: respect, gratitude, care, appreciation, and valuing her sacrifice and work — not just obedience as a child, but lifelong care.
2. Motherhood is sacred and blessed
◦ Psalm 127:3: "Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him." — Motherhood is God’s gift and calling.
◦ Proverbs 31:25–28: Describes the godly mother: "Strength and dignity are her clothing… Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." — This is exactly what we do on Mother’s Day.
◦ Isaiah 66:13: God compares His love to a mother’s love: "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you."
3. How to celebrate biblically
◦ ✔️ Good & biblical: Use this day to express love, gratitude, honor, and care — it fulfills God’s command.
◦ ❌ Not okay: If it becomes only a one-day event and you neglect her the rest of the year; or if it puts her above God.
◦ ✅ Biblical heart: "Honor her every day, and use this special day to do it more intentionally."
4. Examples in Scripture
◦ Jesus honored His mother Mary: cared for her, obeyed her, and even made sure she was cared for at the cross (John 19:26–27).
◦ Mothers like Hannah, Mary, Eunice, Lois show how mothers shape faith and lives — God honors their role.
In short: Mother’s Day is not a religious holiday commanded in Scripture, but the purpose and heart of it are fully biblical. Celebrating is right and pleasing to God, as long as it reflects the lifelong honor He commands us to give.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
