Anwangs History
By Doc Joe Ponsaran
Anwangs Motorcycle Club Aklan
Way back 2019, old friends from Roxas City (Doc Joe and Vince) met again in Aklan for an unexpected reason (riding). Then the two were riding together and looked for other riders to ride along with in the province.
Then, COVID came and sprouted new avenues for meeting a photographer rider (Bernie) in the edge of Eastern Aklan (Dumaguit). Then they started gathering other riders who would like to talk about riding since “bawal lumabas” was implemented. This is where Kenneth came as he knows most motorcycle owners (not necessarily riding) here in Aklan. Introduction to Anthon, Leonard and Neil followed because of him. Who were also known to Bernie, surprisingly.
When “sikyus” lightened up a bit, personnels such as our Cap Alex started to roam around Aklan all the way from Pandan for essential errands. Spotted by Kenneth and being also known to Doc Joe since 2014, he was also asked to be one of us and gladly said YES.
Then came riding moments after boarders were opened. This small group was found to be riding and sharing thoughts as if they knew one another for a long time.
Then came the decision as to what they would want them be called. “ANWANGS” came out of joke at first, but eventually fit this slow growing pack as they are found riding even under the harshest weather conditions, like an Anwang (Carabao).
Building a “brand” doesn’t usually need quantity. Thus this group does not necessarily have an application or induction of new members regularly. New additions, are usually just made through constant riding and vibing along the way. Thus came in Joss, Carlo, Doc Ken, Doc Merlin, and our Bunso, Dap!
Anyone is welcome to ride with us not needing to be “US”. We always embrace riders as they come. For Anwangs is not only a riding group but a way of life. Like a persistent Carabao, we imbibe the idea of “keep moving forward” amidst all challenges of life!
Ride safe everyone!
