The Ati-Atihan Festival is just around the corner! 🎉 Happening from January 10-19, this ancient tradition celebrates the people of Aklan and has evolved into a vibrant homage to the Infant Jesus, Señor Santo Niño. The term “Ati-Atihan” means “merry-making like the Ati,” honoring the aboriginal Ati, the first inhabitants of Aklan and the Western Visayas. Participants smear their skin with soot, don tribal attire, and wear the festival’s iconic tasseled headdresses. The festivities come alive with drumbeats, whistles, and spirited shouts of “Hala Bira! Viva kay Señor Santo Niño!” – a cultural experience not to be missed! 🇵🇭✨
