THGCC 2026: Beyond Scores — Transforming Evaluation into Actionable Knowledge

For many years, coffee competitions have often been associated with a single outcome: a score or a list of tasting notes. While these results are valuable, they represent only a small portion of a coffee's overall quality and potential.

At THGCC 2026 (Thailand Green Coffee Competition), we are committed to developing an evaluation framework that goes beyond traditional scoring systems. By integrating the principles of Q Grading, Coffee Value Assessment (CVA), Green Coffee Grading, and Sensory Science, we aim to provide coffee producers with deeper, more meaningful insights that can be used to continuously improve coffee quality.

Each Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is generated through a comprehensive evaluation system specifically designed for the competition. The assessment includes:

✅ Physical Assessment – Evaluation of green coffee physical quality and bean characteristics

✅ Green Defect Analysis – Identification and classification of defects according to internationally recognized standards

✅ CVA Affective Assessment – Evaluation of perceived quality and preference using the Coffee Value Assessment framework

✅ Descriptive Assessment – A structured sensory analysis that systematically characterizes aroma, flavor, and other sensory attributes

Our objective is not to dictate what a coffee should taste like.

Instead, we seek to explain:

- What evaluators actually perceive
- How quality is interpreted and assessed
- What these observations reveal about the coffee's strengths, characteristics, and potential

Every graph, score, and sensory description is derived from real data that has been systematically collected, analyzed, and translated into meaningful information.

We believe that an evaluation report should be more than a competition result—it should be a practical tool for learning, quality improvement, and long-term development of the Thai coffee industry.

This is the vision behind THGCC 2026.

Transforming evaluation results into knowledge.

Transforming scores into pathways for improvement.

Transforming data into value for Thai coffee producers.

Sample Certificate of Analysis (CoA) shown below.

All Top 10 coffees will receive the complete set of four analytical reports. Other competition entries will receive three reports, excluding the Descriptive Radar Graph.

Indonesia delivered.

A wide range of profiles across the table, with coffees that needed time and attention to understand properly.

Not always straightforward — but that’s where the value of the table comes in.

From the table in Indonesia.

Long sessions, tighter calibration as the days go on, and a lot of focus on the smaller differences between cups.

This is where things start to sharpen.

The people behind Indonesia.

Experience shows up in how a table moves, how quickly things settle, how clearly things are communicated, and how differences are handled.

That’s what keeps things consistent.
