Traditional animation is a process where character movements are created manually by animators. However, developers are increasingly turning to procedural animation. This is a technique where character movements are generated in real-time based on algorithms and parameters. For example, if a character walks on uneven ground, their feet automatically adjust to the surface. Using this technique greatly streamlines the game creation process and allows for greater realism.

Unreal Engine 5 is currently one of the most commonly used engines available to developers. Its two key technologies, Nanite and Lumen, allow for the creation of incredibly realistic environments and characters. Nanite enables the rendering of objects with millions of polygons without a loss of performance, resulting in exceptionally detailed character models and environments. Lumen, on the other hand, provides real-time global illumination, which makes light and shadows in the game behave just as they do in reality. These solutions make animations look fluid and natural, blurring the line between a game and a film.

Although Capcom hasn't officially revealed too much about the upcoming new instalment in the series, fans can't stop speculating. Rumours about RE9 have been circulating for a while, suggesting that the game might return to the roots of survival horror, moving away from the more action-oriented style of recent titles. What would this mean? Potentially, a return to claustrophobic locations, limited ammunition, and intricate puzzles? Gamers hope that Capcom will listen to the community, which longs for the atmosphere of the first games.
