Today I was visited by DACO along with a Telemundo reporter Silvia Gomez, a camera man and several other people in the group to film DACO working in my business. Without prior notice or permission, they entered my business during lunch hour, which I had to stop cooking and dropped everything I was doing to handle their intrusion. Silvia Gomez, without even a small respect to introduce herself or explaining to me what she was doing inside my business with the camera crew, started asking me questions and filming the exchanges when there were lunch customers defending me. Apparently she feels that they have the rights to invade my space since DACO has invited them to film inside on my behalf.
After a long thought, I decided to drop a message to this reporter because I honestly feel that this unpleasant experience needs to be corrected and shared.
Following is the message I wrote to her to let her know that she has crossed the line.
" Good evening Miss Gomez,
I can't say I have the pleasure meeting you today during my business hour when I had to stop working to satisfy your intrusion. The last I checked, a reporter has the integrity and the responsibility to report the truth and process the ethics to tell the right from wrong. You came in to my business without notification and started the filming, that, to me is invasive and unethical, especially you don't even know if I had done wrong. You fail to identify I am not doing what other merchants are doing and you victimized me as the wrong doer. I didn't impose any fee or charges to my customers, the last thing I would do is to rip people off!
There is a different between adding a surprise fee or coming up with a new charge at the time while bill is presented. I did not do any of that. I simply advising my customers every step of the way that I have increased my price at a 10% ratio over my current menu price in case they wonder why the items are costing more. They are all adjusted individually on the bill and it is taxed for IVU accordingly. It is sad how you being sucked up with those incompetent officers into conducting such unprofessional behavior. You graduated with a good American college degree, you must understand what the sign says! I don't blame those imbecile for not understanding the purpose of the sign while not everyone has the same degree of education here. But your participation in such witch hunt is really a disappointment and disgrace.
In case you don't understand what the posted sign means; It says I have increased my price due to rampant inflation, and you will notice a 10% increment when get the bill. I am being totally transparent and up front about my price change, what is wrong about that? And I broke the law being honest and giving full disclosure? It is a broken society when the incapable is given such power to decide what is right or wrong! You must have leant that somewhere along the way during your Periodista education.
Hope you will find the wisdom to walk the right path and do the right thing. Don't move along just because you were told to, investigate and be your own judge."
