A tiny amphibian is getting a big boost.

Nearly 7,000 Puerto Rican crested toad tadpoles have been sent to Puerto Rico as part of an ongoing effort to help the critically endangered species recover. The tadpoles will be released into rainforest habitat, where conservationists hope they will help strengthen wild populations.

Found only in Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican crested toad faces threats from habitat loss, invasive species, and environmental changes. Conservationists say tadpole releases have been an important part of efforts to restore the species for decades.
