Monday in the Douro. Sun, laughter, a table with a view that stops you cold.
is a family story like no other: Kay, an American mother from Napa Valley, and Vincent, a Burgundian father who fell in love with the Douro — building a boutique Port house at the heart of the valley. 14 hectares of certified organic vines, graded A, surrounded by biodynamic neighbours.
We were welcomed by Kay and Odile like old friends. Odile is the new generation — both at the quinta and through her own project . Wines of rare finesse, freshness and complexity. Talented and humble — what a combination.
We drove back happy, and a little jealous of their view. Their wines are at the shelves — not many bottles, come find them.

Ainda ontem, esta couve coração levava uma vida tranquila.
Até alguém ter a ideia irresponsável de a assar em manteiga até ficar ligeiramente indecente.

Desde então, anda metida com um iogurte de tahini demasiado cremoso, alho-francês crocante de reputação duvidosa, cajus tostados… e um ovo marinado incapaz de manter a calma durante mais de trinta segundos.

O resultado parece um prato vegetariano.
Mas honestamente, é mais uma armadilha emocional.

Você diz:
“hoje vou comer algo leve”

E dez minutos depois:
— está a limpar o prato com pão
— a olhar discretamente para o prato do vizinho
— a considerar pedir uma segunda dose sem qualquer vergonha

Enfim.
A couve coração perdeu completamente o controlo.

Just yesterday, this spring cabbage was living a quiet, respectable life.
Then someone had the reckless idea of roasting it in butter until it became slightly inappropriate.

Since then, it’s been hanging around with an overly creamy tahini yogurt, dangerously crunchy leeks, toasted cashews… and a marinated egg completely incapable of keeping it together for more than thirty seconds.

The result looks like a vegetarian dish.
But honestly, it’s more of an emotional trap.

You say:
“I’ll have something light tonight.”

Then ten minutes later:
— you’re wiping the plate clean with bread
— secretly staring at your neighbour’s dish
— seriously considering ordering a second one with zero shame

Anyway.
This cabbage completely lost control.
And it’s now on the menu at A Cave Do Bon Vivant 🍷🌱

O .orchestra está de volta — dia 13, a partir das 20h. Jazz ao vivo, vinho natural, aquela energia que só acontece quando tudo bate certo. Reserva já. As mesas voam.
Ah, e servimos almoço agora. Sopa, prato, café — de terça a sábado das 12h30 às 15h. Porque às vezes o dia pede uma pausa a sério.
A esplanada? Aberta. O sol? Convidado. Tu? Esperamos por ti.

Also : we serve lunch now. Soup, main, coffee — Tuesday to Saturday, 12:30 to 3pm. Because some days just need a proper pause.
