Welcome to an evening of poetry with Natalie Diaz!

ABOUT NATALIE DIAZ

Natalie Diaz was born on September 4, 1978, and raised in the Fort Mojave Indian Village in Needles, California, on the banks of the Colorado River. Diaz currently lives in Mohave Valley, Arizona, where she has worked with the last speakers of Mojave and directed a language revitalization program. In a PBS interview, she spoke of the connection between writing and experience: "for me writing is kind of a way for me to explore why I want things and why I'm afraid of things and why I worry about things. And for me, all of those things represent a kind of hunger that comes with being raised in a place like this.”

Diaz is the author of Postcolonial Love Poem, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry and finalist for the National Book Award and the Forward Prize in Poetry, and When My Brother Was an Aztec, winner of an American Book Award.

Doors opening at 19.00. Program entails an opening act by poet Yaël, a conversation between the poets Felicia Mulinari and Natalie Diaz, as well as a poetry reading by Natalie Diaz. During the evening, there will be a possibility for all attending to contribute to a collective poem.
