CAAT Issues Nationwide Ban on Drone Operations to Safeguard National Security Amid Thai–Cambodian Border Tensions
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued an urgent notification prohibiting the operation or release of all types of unmanned aircraft systems (drones) across the entire country. This restriction is effective from 30 July 2025 until 15 August 2025, or until further notice.

The measure has been implemented as a preventive response to potential national security and safety risks stemming from the ongoing unrest along the Thai–Cambodian border. The ban aims to support security operations and ensure public safety in sensitive areas.

Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, stated that the prohibition is in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, which authorize CAAT to suspend drone operations during periods that may threaten national peace and security. He emphasized that violators will be subject to legal penalties under the Air Navigation Act B.E. 2497 and its amendments, which include imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to 40,000 Baht, or both. Furthermore, military personnel are authorized to destroy any unmanned aircraft deemed a threat to national security.

Any person who witnesses or has knowledge of drone operations in violation of this notification is requested to report the incident immediately. The report should include the date, time, location, description of the drone, and, if available, photographic or video evidence. Reports can be submitted through one of the following channels:
1. Unmanned Aircraft Standards and Technology Development Division, Unmanned Aircraft Standards Department, CAAT
Tel: 02-568-8851
Email: [email protected]
2. Anti-Drone Center for Remotely Piloted Aircraft, Metropolitan Police Bureau
Tel: 02-126-7846
Email: [email protected]
3. Local emergency reporting units, such as the nearest police station, military unit, or responsible security agency in the area.

CAAT kindly requests the cooperation of the public to refrain from using drones during the specified period to safeguard national security and to fully support the missions of security personnel in border areas.

Thai authorities have reminded all foreign tourists planning trips to the country that they will need to fill out a Thailand Digital Arrival Card at least three days before travelling, starting on April 28 for arrivals on May 1.

The simple application, replacing the traditional TM.6 paper form, can be completed on the TDAC website (https://tdac.immigration.go.th/arrival-card), said deputy government spokesman Anukool Pruksanusak. A TDAC mobile app for Android and iOS users is expected to be ready soon.
