I remember being 5 and asking my Sicilian Nana for an ice cream sandwich. She took two pieces of white bread and put vanilla ice cream in the middle. I was unimpressed to say the least. It wasn’t until a few years ago watching a food travel show on Sicily that I realized this is a very typical Sicilian treat, often eaten for breakfast!
Well anyway, we’re doing it with a bomboline (Italian doughnut), amarena cherry gelato, and raspberry sauce. You should probably leave room for dessert.
