This has become a huge issue at our restaurant. We have had to ask numerous people lately to remove their dogs as they were not service animals. It doesn’t matter how small or obedient or even if they are in your purse they are not permitted. Service animals are 100% WELCOME. Anything beyond that is NOT permitted. And yes, there is a difference in service vs. companion animal.
At the health department, all of our employees are pet owners. We love our furry friends just as much as you do!
However, we've been receiving questions about animals in grocery stores and restaurants. It's important to note that only service animals are permitted inside food service establishments. Emotional support animals, while important companions, are not considered service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
