*UPDATE*

Well, as of Saturday, we're all moved out. That's the sad news. The good news is we're actively looking at 3 potential locations. One of the locations is in the Valley. We'd like real feedback on the Valley idea. What are your thoughts? We value all opinions from our RC fans.

We added new music to The Red Chair Cafe Anchorage playlist on Spotify, so go check it out. It's nice to see the new listeners.

Until next time, friends...stay cool!

Cheers!...Chef B

Gone but still here...

We're thankful to all the folks that stopped by this weekend and shared food with us, thankful for all the beautiful people that stayed to help us run it to the end, thankful for ALL the amazing words of encouragement. There are however a few loose ends that we'd like to tie up now that we're closed.

First, we'd like to sincerely apologize for the 'wait times' that added up over the years. If there was Ever ONE consistent complaint it was how long it took for food to hit the table. There is a legitimate reason that we never felt justified to use. And that was the size of our hot line. The hot line was never built to handle the amount of business that we did. We tried over the years to build a menu that could make it easier for the hot line to handle, but that proved to be moot. So, we hope that for most of you, your time together with friends and family was lovely, and we appreciate your wait and your return business.

Second, our music. When Red Chair opened, we decided that music would be used to create a certain vibe. We created the playlist and ALL music was considered...even explicit. This list is still available to you ( on Spotify search The Red Chair Cafe Anchorage). We'll be updating it weekly, just like before. If you like it as much as we do, follow us.

Third, updates. We'll update you weekly on our progress. As of now, we're seriously considering 3 locations. We are in the baby stages. So when we have more information, we'll pass it along.

Fourth, more thank yous. Thank you Kayleen for being such an amazing server, we love you so much. Thank you Mary-Ellen for being by my side during the first COVID closure, you made it bearable. Thank you Ryan, Rob, Tati, Crystal, you'll always be in our hearts.

So, for now, Goodbye. Be Happy because Happiness isn't an option, Love the ones you're with, and Cheers to ALL our Red Chair Fans...

2 days...

After we posted our closing date, several people commented that they're going to miss Nikola. WE'RE going to miss Nikola. He is the face you see when you walk in that front door. He represents Red Chair so well; he's irreplaceable.

Nikola is here from Serbia and has worked at Red Chair going on 3 years. He is so efficient, unshakeable, reliable; a rock. You'll see Nikola seating and greeting mostly these days...making tasty coffees, but when he's serving, he's most excellent.

Nikola is trying his hand at an Internet enterprise and we wish him all the best, all the love, great fortune, and success, no one deserves it more. And when we reopen, it's our Greatest hope that he'll be by our side. Cheers Nikola, you'll be sorely missed.

Tish

Have you ever met that one person who just feeds you words of wisdom and fills you with insightful advice? This is Tish.

Tish is so incredibly special to Red Chair and me because she wields soft influence, is an engaged listener, adds texture and nuance to her thinking (which I absolutely need at times), and her character is organic. She has been my filter, at times, between the Front of House and the Back of House. She offers me perspective that I haven't thought of. She's artistic and funny.

I'll always take those hugs, Tish. Thank you for all of your hard work, for being there when I can't, and for lending me your ears.

Four more days...

Judd "Throw you under the Bus" & Sweet, Quiet Mike...

These are our pantry guys. Both Judd and Mike started out in dish and have made their way up to pantry; Judd to hot line. Both of these hard-working gentlemen have been with us a while. I couldn't do it without them. If you've ever worked in a scratch kitchen you know how much work there is to do. Every day, even if it's slow, there is prep to do. Judd and Mike are the guys that get it done. They both have fine-tuned their plating skills and create eye-pleasing dishes. These guys have been with me through thick and thin and I consider them family. I'm so proud to work beside Judd and Mike and I hope to have them by my side in the future.

The Wit...Chef Hoss.

Known to us as Hoss Boss, Chef Hoss is arguably one of the wittiest people I know. His brain works faster than the speed of light when it comes to on-your-feet thinking. Chef Hoss also knows more about food than any one person I've ever met. And that's an understatement.

Chef Hoss has been into creating amazing food since he was a boy and has traveled all over the United States learning different cuisines, styles, and perfecting his cooking skills: Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Wyoming, Utah, and at last Alaska.

In 2013 Chef Hoss found Red Chair and has been with us ever since. As he put it "I found a home. It's been like that since. We are a family; we argue, we fight, but we always get along in the end."

Chef Hoss is my right-hand man. We share ideas, perfect them, and implement them to our menu. We've allowed Chef Hoss to be free and creative which inspires me to be better. I love him like a brother and until we meet again in the kitchen my friend, cheers to your witty, creative, beautiful self.

Good Day Red Chair Fans! Today we're starting our goodbyes and honoring the folks behind the scenes. Why? Because running a successful restaurant takes a dedicated team. We have been so blessed to have such a committed crew. Good people need to be recognized. I love each and every one of them...

Johnny

Johnny (or Johnny Cakes to us) has been with us almost since the beginning. Johnny started in dish pit and has worked his way up to kitchen Supervisor. Johnny knows every part of the BOH. He has come so far; learning recipes, baking alongside me, working the hot and pantry lines, creating his own dishes. I'm so proud of Johnny. He is my rock. He's positive, funny, a people pleaser, and loving. Thank you, Johnny, for having my back.

Hello, again Red Chair Friends and Family near and Far.

Thank you. Thank you for all of the heartfelt sentiments, compliments, and encouraging words. This week has been emotionally difficult. I'm not gonna lie, I've shed so many tears reading all the comments, shared thoughts, sad emojis.

The community support we're getting is incredible. It makes me so proud. Behind the scenes, things are happening and they are coming from YOU. Our supporters, lovers of what we do and represent, can rest assured that we'll be back.

I'd like to quash some rumors. Our closure isn't due to COVID. We managed our funds well through the painful closures. However, we'd be further ahead if we were able to operate fully. My business partner and I discussed whether or not to divulge more information and decided that it's best to look to the future and not dwell on the crushing immoral decisions of others; things not in our control.

It's our goal to keep you, our faithful customers, updated on our progress. Once again, thank you for the support, the wonderful stories on how you came to know Red Chair, and how you're looking to the future with us.

Cheers Friends!

~Chef Barb, David, and the whole Red Chair Family

To our Dearest Red Chair Fans:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the closing of our doors on October 18, 2020. As your faithful Chef and owner of 7 years, this announcement can barely leave my fingertips to write you this message and chokes the words in my throat.

This closure is beyond our control and has nothing to do with COVID, although COVID and the current atmosphere aren’t helping.

We’re working diligently on relocating; however, LOTS of funds need to be gathered, contracts signed, etc. before we can reopen.

Thank you, Anchorage. Thank you for helping Red Chair grow into this amazing Restaurant that it is today. You helped us take a very difficult location and turn it into a super hoppin’, fun café. We have learned so much, good and bad, about how to survive in a hard spot. Thank you for ALL of your support.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’d like to feature some of our amazing employees, in posts. We want to do this because these folks are so much a part of me/us and Red Chair. They are amazing people with inherited character, integrity, love… So, please help me thank each and every one of these amazing humans.

With so much Love,
Chef Barb…The Red Chair Café…
