My Baby back ribs….

When the world shut down, I decided life was to short…

I wasn’t worried about Covid, I just looked at my life here on this earth.

I was 45 years old, had a 12 year old daughter, and a6 year old daughter….

The opportunity becomes available that I could do something in my life, that honestly, I always wanted to do…

I went an enrolled in culinary school…

Something I wanted to do at the age of 18…..

The inside fun fact as I was actually graduating culinary school, during the actual ceremony, I was using the kitchen, to smoke some baby back ribs….

Just for the graduation party after my own graduation 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣
My rib recipe was created with the atmost care for myself and my family….

And now🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m bringing them out to everyone….

We have SUPER EXCITING NEWS!!!!

More than seventy years ago, Wayman Presley and the original founders of Bald K**b Cross envisioned a tram that would allow visitors to ascend inside the Cross and take in breathtaking views of the Southern Illinois Ozarks. While plans for a lift were part of the original design, the idea remained unrealized—until now.

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the launch of the Top of the Cross Experience. Construction will soon begin on an interior lift that will carry visitors to the top of the Cross. Designed with care, the project will preserve the monument’s exterior appearance, with minimally visible modifications. Window portals will be tinted white to blend seamlessly with the structure.

The lift will be wheelchair accessible and allow visitors exit to an enclosed observation deck to enjoy the panoramic views.

After years of planning behind the scenes, the project is now moving forward. The total construction cost is just over $500,000. Bald K**b Cross has been awarded a $200,000 matching tourism grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, making this long-held vision more attainable.

The Top of the Cross Experience will feature a single-car tram inside the 111-foot monument. For a reasonable fee, visitors will be transported to an enclosed observation deck 100 feet up. During the 75-second ascent, guests will receive a brief historical presentation. At the top, they will experience sweeping views of the Shawnee National Forest, Bald K**b Wilderness Area, the Mississippi River Valley, and parts of three neighboring states. On the descent, guests will receive an inspirational message.

This project fulfills a long-standing request from visitors and honors the founders’ original vision. Structural engineers and state agencies have confirmed that the tram can be installed safely without compromising the structural integrity of the monument. The project team includes Project Manager Steve McKeown, Ron Stork Construction (Sparta, Illinois), Kreher Engineering, and Beta Max Hoists (Florida).

It is important to note, the mission of Bald K**b Cross remains unchanged: To maintain and develop the Bald K**b Cross monument and its properties in ways that advance and are consistent with the principles and values of the Christian faith, for which the monument stands as an iconic symbol.

Because the state funding is a matching grant, additional financial support is essential. Only with the financial help of our supporters, can this vision finally become a reality.

If you would like to make the Top of the Cross Experience a reality, please make your tax-deductible donation here. THANK YOU!
