A late goodbye...
We were ambitious. Even audacious. We took two of the hardest businesses - farming and food service - and tossed them into one small, eager company. It was a bold move - a deliberate attempt to close the ever-widening gap between growers and consumers, and a daily demonstration of how food that’s good for you can taste good too.
We had unforgettable moments that were shared with many - visits from Alice Walker, Stacey Abrams, Oprah Winfrey - but some of the most meaningful memories were made in quiet conversations with loyal customers who stopped long enough to share their personal stories. Stories about their journey towards a healthier lifestyle, stories about how our food brought their family closer together, about how we became a part of their quest to get their kids to eat well, or how we became an ally in their battle with cancer.
Losing the business feels in so many ways like losing a loved one. It represented years of work and planning and sacrifice that started well before the doors ever opened. It was a family venture. The grief is made worse by the fact that closing our doors meant losing those daily interactions with customers who also became like family. If there was anything more we could have done to still be growing and serving food now, we definitely would have done it.
We apologize for letting you down, and for taking so long to say goodbye. And if we ever get a chance to try again, we promise to come back even better.

Can we share? These past few weeks have been the most troubling in our young history. The goal of bringing fresh, local food to our neighborhood at reasonable prices has proven even more difficult than we ever imagined. We are on the ropes, but we'll continue to fight. Thank you as always for your loyalty and patience. We have not always gotten everything right, but we have always done it with love and passion in our hearts.
