As you all know, Tony’s has evolved into equal parts CIGFLUENCER & apparel store. That sometimes moonlights as a restaurant. But our doors are always open, nonstop, 24.7, and it is part of TBG company policy that someone in the building is REQUIRED to have cigs. which means, scientifically, that we offer opportunities to connect with other human beings from all walks of life at every single hour of the day. So If you are craving connection or community or ni****ne or booze or pizza or all 5, c’mon down to the joint & celebrate the REAL America that we know & ❤️ with us. Bc if this ain’t your idea of a perfect way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of 🇺🇸, then I guess you don’t want perfect.

“Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable” - Anthony Bourdain, pictured in 2015, in our dining room. Tony, like so many of you, understood that our joint is so much more than just a place to eat. It represents a time when restaurants weren’t designed by marketing firms or built to be Insta-worthy. When restaurants were built to feed neighborhoods, welcome shift workers after midnight, celebrate birthdays & to comfort people after funerals. TBG embodied everything that Tony believed America was quietly losing: family-owned institutions that have remained stubbornly & beautifully unchanged through generations. We will always be grateful for bourdains visit but especially because he was able to share with the world that we value authenticity over hype, character over luxury, history over novelty and the deep & undeniable human truth that the best meals are always the ones that remind us where we come from.

In 99 years, we’ve screwed up absolutely everything you could in a restaurant & almost everything that doesn’t have to do with one, too. Except for one thing. We have NEVER had a single complaint that our pizza wasn’t HOT enough. Incinerating the roof of your mouth is a right of passage at the Joint! IYKYFK.

Famously burned into our brains from the last scene of the Sopranos, this not an Atlantic City story, or even a New Jersey story, it’s a universal one that is as relevant today as it was in 1981.

With heavy hearts we are devastated to announce the passing of Marlene Harmon, a long time staff member at Tony’s. Marlene was a cashier at the joint and let me tell you- she was one of the greatest staff members to ever grace the BG. Not because she provided great service- We all know that this wasn’t her priority! Marlene was, unapologetically, her FULL self at Tony’s. She could barely hear & regularly was shouting at clients on the phone. In her defense, the phones have always been a nightmare. Marlene loved to dress like a witch. At work! and she wouldn’t hesitate to threaten to cast a spell on a customer. And we encouraged it. Halloween was her Super Bowl. Every day she was at Tony’s, she was comfortable being herself. and we loved her for it. what more could we ask for? In addition to her regular trash talking, you always knew where you stood with her. When the “new owners who fu**ed Tony’s up” arrived, she treated them the same way they treated her! With unconditional acceptance. She never asked how we felt about her because she knew! But If anyone ever wonders why we don’t GAF about negative reviews online…it’s because the ONLY reviews we care about are the ones we get from people who owe us nothing. Marlene retired in 2020, but we stayed in touch. As reliable as she was at work she was even more reliable when it came to loving & supporting us. I think it’s bc Marlene felt LOVED & SEEN for who she really was, not for her ability to work a cash register at a stupid pizza place. I love this woman. I always did. From the first second, she accepted me for who I was. She never wanted me to be different. I was enough. Marlene and her imperfections were exactly what made her, and Tony’s, PERFECT for each other. These candid messages hopefully give you a glimpse into how caring, honest, & vulnerable someone can be when they feel safe & protected. I’m not sure if shes resting in eternal peace or if she’s breaking the devil balls. Either way, we surely mourn the loss of a woman who cast a never ending spell on all of us in her perfectly weird & wonderful way. We Love you Marlene, always & forever. The Joint.
